At Newegg…the deal is for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro Lifetime on 1 PC and includes free, AVG Internet Security software…until 6/24 at 11:59 p.m. Not a bad deal considering it’s for $17.99, and usually Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro Lifetime 1 license costs $29.99. One thing to know: It’s for the lifetime of that PC, not your lifetime – which I sincerely hope is much longer than that! AVG Internet Security costs $54.99. Not sure if the edition w...

Take a look at this ad (courtesy of Neowin.net ): Looks to me like MS is going to be weeding out old code and putting newer and (hopefully) better stuff in. Even better: ‘top level UI surfaces’…replacing/refactoring pieces of code (i.e. Win32 code). Even better…the new frameworks allowing more frequent updates. We’re talking Windows 9. We’re talking streamlining.   Source: http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-is-about-to-make-big-changes-to-...

Their motives were sincere. They wanted to assess the risk of a 1918 “Spanish Influenza” (H1N1) type outbreak in the future. They believe that since there are Avian Influenza viruses, the H1N1 outbreak resulted from mutations in that virus causing cross species infectivity and transmission. The experiment (their graphic):   Reasonable, it would seem, until you think a bit and conclude that “post hoc ergo propter hoc” logic isn’t really val...

Who doesn’t like Malwarebytes (besides the cybercriminals)? So what does it do? It protects apps and browsers from exploits. It’s been tested, but only in Malwarebytes sponsored studies. Malwarebytes states it defended successfully against”: “Nuclear Pack, Angler EK, Infinity EK, FlashPack EK, Magnitude EK, Fiesta EK, Grandsoft EK, Sweet Orange EK, Styx EK, RIG and Gondad.” – gHacks You can find the original (sponsored) post here: http://malware.dontneedcoffee...

Tonight (technically tomorrow morning) at 12:11 am (EDT) there will be a full “Honey Moon” on a Friday the 13th in almost 100 years. This one is special because the full moon also coincides with perigee so, it’ll appear very large on the horizon. Add to this mix the June summer solstice and an itty bitty dust in the air… et voila a honey colored (amber) moon. Don’t miss it…it won’t happen again until 2098!   Apparently, Gmail had a large security flaw which could have led to mining huge numbers of users email addresses. “Oren Hafif, a security penetration expert, discovered last year that he could manipulate the little-used account-sharing feature in Gmail to edit the 'Rejection Confirmed' webpage. After changing one character in the URL of the page that appears when you reject access to a shared account, Hafif found he could make the page tell him that he had been declined acce...

You’ve probably seen the story. Many are hoping NASA gets the funds to probe (pardon the pun) this idea. Einstein proved that there is an absolute limit to velocity (the speed of light in a vacuum = c ). However, what if a field (a warp field) could be generated which would compress space ahead of the vessel and expand it behind the vessel, by generating a “warp bubble” around the vessel. So? Well, while the speed of light remains as is, space itself can be...

Yup. 59 (fifty nine) vulnerabilities patched for IE. I have no words. What can I say except Read about them here: https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/ms14-035  or here:  http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-59-internet-explorer-vulnerabilities-patched-in-june There are at least 2 critical patches for each IE version plus additional ‘important’ ones. There are also game updates for MS Surface Pro 2. Enjoy.

Yes…it seems the patch nazi has spoken. “Windows 8.1 users who haven't yet installed the major update released by Microsoft in April, will stop receiving updates starting tomorrow. Microsoft had announced that the update which was earlier known as the "Spring" update would be a mandatory update for Windows 8.1 users and had a given a buffer period for users to update to it. After launching the major update in April, Microsoft set a deadli...

So…Intel’s newest and thinnest (thinner than an iPad) Broadwell processor powered (“Llama Mountain”) tablet made its prototype appearance. The name is from its newest processor the new 14nm Core M (Broadwell) processor to enable thinner, fanless convertible devices. Being fanless, thin is the word. This hybrid is the thinnest and lightest yet: 7.2mm (0.28 inch), the slate is thinner than the iPad Air (7.5mm), and it's also significantly lighter than t...

Vodafone operates in 29 countries in Europe and Asia. Its report sheds light on the ‘hows and wheres’ of government spying on calls. It was published despite risk to company employees in those countries. The legacy of Edward Snowden continues. “The report focuses on the two categories of law enforcement demands that account for the overwhelming majority of all such activity: lawful interception and access to communications data.” – ZDNet That ris...

Just to inform all Springpad users that indeed, it’s about to die. It will shut down on June 25th. You should have gotten an email confirmation of this with instructions on how to export your data to “Evernote” (which they’ll do for you). If you choose another app, they’ll email your data to you as a .json file which you can incorporate into your new app of choice. In their blog notification , they do say there will be another export app coming from them: “We ar...
