Who doesn’t like Malwarebytes (besides the cybercriminals)? So what does it do? It protects apps and browsers from exploits.
It’s been tested, but only in Malwarebytes sponsored studies. Malwarebytes states it defended successfully against”:
“Nuclear Pack, Angler EK, Infinity EK, FlashPack EK, Magnitude EK, Fiesta EK, Grandsoft EK, Sweet Orange EK, Styx EK, RIG and Gondad.” – gHacks
You can find the original (sponsored) post here: http://malware.dontneedcoffee.com/2014/06/mbae.html
gHacks warns that some of those kits might only be defended against by the Premium and Business editions. There are significant differences between the versions. The free version protects browsers, browser add ons (including plugins) and Java.
The other differences between the editions may be viewed here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/antiexploit/
That is also the download link. Malwarebytes reviews its compatibility here: https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=146501
and states it has conflicts with EMET. Martin Brinkmann stated in his review:
“I'm running it along with EMET and have not noticed any issues doing so.”- ibid
Other conflicts are enumerated here: https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=135127
“The premium version is available for $24.95 for three PCs and 1 year of free upgrades, the business edition is available for $29.95 for a single PC and one year of free upgrades.”- gHacks
Overall?
1. Read the gHacks review.
2. Depends what you intend to use it for.
3. Review the possible conflicts (links above). Also, know that EMET provides many more customization options.
And, as always:
1. Do your own research. I’m not a professional software reviewer.
2. If you do decide to take the plunge, first create a restore point. Consider doing an external backup if not recently done.
3. If you don’t really need the software, don’t do it.
