For folks in the path of Sandy and for those concerned about them Google has launched its Crisis map. You can find it here: http://google.org/crisismap/2012-sandy It’s built on the base of Google Maps, but has a ton of info and additional deeper menus in the right side bar. Hope all in the affected areas are doing what they should, and are safe. Google… good for you on this one!
Every camera introduces “noise” in varying degrees at different ISO and lighting settings. Generally, the higher the ISO, the higher the noise. Topaz labs makes various Photoshop plugins for various tasks. Topaz DeNoise reduces the noise of all types in your photos, but the nice thing about it is that it preserves the detail (and image quality) while doing so. Usually the plugin costs $79.99 . For the next 20 (or so) hours, it’s $47.99 at BitsduJour (link below)...
Ross and many others use Ps 7 to do their graphics work. So… here’s a cheat sheet for Ps 7. It’s in pdf format, so no excuses. This is just the first page: Link: http://planetozh.com/download/refcards/Photoshop.pdf
For tens of millions of diabetics who use insulin to help balance their sugar levels, there might be some wonderful news on the horizon. Every diabetic using insulin must test his/her blood sugar and some have to test it often. Advances in that technology have been made, but the actual treatment of self administration of insulin with syringes hasn’t changed since its onset of usage as a treatment, until possibly now. This is because insulin is a large molecule and not absor...

I joined Boopish.com yesterday… Betty’s new site. It’s still being built, but it’s still a great place to go…please check it out! Another really fine site for Photoshop tutorials is Photolesa.com (once The Graphic Reporter) . I recommend both these sites strongly for folks who are interested in expanding their knowledge of Adobe Photoshop. Lesa is a truly gifted teacher and is internationally recognized as a Photoshop guru. ...
When this controversy started, I posted in Forums about it. This post comes as follow up. So, these scientists (and one government official) were put on trial for manslaughter. The essence of the matter was that they did not predict this earthquake which killed 300 people in 2009 in Abruzzo, Italy. Back then, as now I felt that this was irrational as both then and now there is no method or testing which can reliably predict an earthquake, even if these scientists were on the It...
Well, it’s almost Halloween… In my net surfing, I found that Chris Pirillo over at howtogeek.com has collected some which are worth a look see. There are also more goodies to be had… icon packs and fonts (I’ve published on that before). The links to those goodies are below the walls at Chris’s site. Anyway, cruise over and take a look! http://www.howtogeek.com/127124/desktop-fun-halloween-2012-wallpaper-collection-bonus-edition/
Samsung has come out with a $249 Chromebook… it weighs in at 2.43 lbs. (1.1 kg) with an 11.6 in. screen running an ARM processor. ZDNet reviewed it and found outstanding performance and good battery life. The casing is silver colored plastic which “feels sturdy”. Apple fans are pumped up about "a “little” announcement… the iPad Mini version. It’s supposed to be about 8.4 by 5.7 in. (21.3 cm tall by 14.4 cm wide), with a displa...
O.K. Scientists ( link ) are now proposing a laser so powerful that it could actually tear a hole in space-time and boil a vacuum, according to Ryan Matthew Pierson . This from the technology which produced the 54 trillion dollar phone bill. It should cost 1 billion Pounds Sterling. Cheap… borrow it from the Chinese. “The Ultra-High Field laser will be made up of 10 beams, each twice as powerful as the prototype lasers, allowing it to produce 200 petawatt...
Mozilla’s security chief asked Firefox users not to use Firefox 16 until a critical security flaw introduced in ff16 is fixed. If you use Firefox, it might have updated silently, so please be aware of the problem, termed “Chemspill”: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/Planning/2012-10-10 Michael Coates (director of security assistance at Mozilla) said: “Those who have downloaded Firefox 16 to revert back to Firefox 15.0.1.” The vulnerabilit...

Felix (FX) Lindner, a well known super hacker (for the white hats), has revealed at “Hack In The Box” that Huawei’s routers have so many security holes that using the hack he discovered (which requires physical connection) for the ‘static’ password is trivial. He won a cash prize for it. "I don't know if there are backdoors - but it doesn't matter since there are so many vulnerabilities." – Felix Lindner These were revealed by him at Defcon in July. The...
That’s more than the world’s GDP. And you thought yours was bad. This lady only wanted to close out her account. I figure if it were true, she’d be the reason for the next world recession. Neowin published the article… http://www.neowin.net/news/customer-receives-11721000000000000-phone-bill A printing error indeed. That works out to $54.3 trillion dollars (U.S.). I wonder what her husband said…
PortableApps.com is a great site. While it doesn’t carry all the possibly portable apps, it now has tons available. Of interest to YouTheDesigner.com are the graphics apps… but there are tons more worth looking at there. Utilities and much more. If you travel a lot, and don’t want to shlep a computer with you… I’d recommend downloading their app which does the following: And have a great day!
