Well, that’s ok in most situations…but not when it comes to cancer. Cells communicate with the world around them via signals they receive through their membranes which are conducted to their nuclei by various pathways…15 at last count. One is especially important: MAPK/ERK (not the Mod from Oz)…and that cancer cells grown in culture (mouse cancer cells) have dysregulation of this pathway in 85% of all cancer types. In the cancerous cells, it turns out that...

So happy this is happening to the “We’re making changes to help you tag photos even though you didn’t ask” folks. Apparently, the “social network” violated Illinois privacy laws: Not providing written notification that his biometric data was being collected or stored. It is also unlawful to collect biometric data in the state without clearly stating the purpose for which that data is being collected, along with notification of how long it would be stored for. ...

Through State Dep’t. emails, Russian sources were able to obtain confidential material on the President’s schedule and calls. It is unclear what else they might have obtained, and I doubt the White House will be very forthcoming as to details. This isn’t the first time either, and it’s generally through an unclassified system and then crosses over to the classified systems. Beyond that, security people who have been trying to extricate the Russian hackers from t...

I’m also betting it’s a development that isn’t far off at all…because Opera very recently acquired SurfEasy which provides an easy to use VPN for mobile devices and desktops. Why would Opera acquire such a company if it didn’t intend to integrate it with its browser somehow? There were hopes that Mozilla would integrate Tor anonymity software into Firefox…but Mozilla declined. Well, it really wouldn’t have been a hard thing to do since Tor already uses a version (ESR) of Fi...

Not a whole lot to say about it except it’s a truly lovely gift! http://www.openculture.com/2015/03/download-422-free-art-books-from-the-metropolitan-museum-of-art.html I’d add images…but I’m pretty sure they aren’t free to do that with… Enjoy!

You might be getting this warning…or even several hits with a “high” rating as malware with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Pro. They will probably point to the registry. You won’t be able to see the full path in Malwarebytes (and that should be corrected by them). You can however save it to a text file and then get the full path. So what are they? “The entries that Malwarebytes found are software restrictions that someone or a program have added to the system. They can ...

Good app…install it, but then: Close all browsers Create a system restore point Click on the refresh button after opening the program The program identifies all toolbars, extensions and plug-ins as well as their path. You can then select and remove one or more at one go. Important: All the tool bars, extensions and plug-ins’ boxes are checked by default so you have to remove the checks in whatever you wish to keep! Once you’ve done that, c...

It’s worth it…if for no other reason than not having to try and remember all those passwords, links and extensions…and yes, FEBE has an actual meaning: Firefox Environment Backup Extension. “It will actually rebuild your extensions individually into installable .xpi files. Now you can easily synchronize your office and home browsers. FEBE backs up and restores your extensions, themes, and (optionally) your bookmarks, preferences, cookies. and much more. Backup as little or...

This has to rank way up there on the creepy scale. You remember the creepy Samsung TV that eavesdrops on conversations in the room its located in? If you don’t, it’s here . The truth? TVs since becoming “smart” and “taking orders” by voice command (guess what other appliances do that?) and Stuxnet – you can’t say anything in your own home (or anywhere else they are). Samsung’s privacy policy: “To provide you the Voice Recognition feature, some voice command...

These machines don't even deserve a review. iOS vs. Screwgle OS...aluminum...a whole lotta "meh". Judge for yourselves.

Clearly, the Chinese market is one to penetrate…and how better to do it than via the Xiaomi 4 – an Android smart phone? MS revealed the launch of W10 this summer (no specific date, just yet), but also a deal with Xiaomi whereby owners of the Xiaomi 4 will be able to install and test the W10 Technical Preview and give feedback to MS. Very, very smart. So how did they do that? Well, basically the same way Cyanogen Mod does…via a customized ROM images which overwrite the devic...

MS has revealed ( http://blogs.windows.com/bloggingwindows/2015/03/16/how-windows-10-achieves-its-compact-footprint/ ) that: W10 will take up to 6.6 GB less space Reinstall faster Will be easier to rid of crapware To achieve this will use “Wimboot” to decrease system file and app sizes To check if it can be used, the OS will check the RAM and other parameters of your machine before installation. To accomplish this, the files needed for recovery from failure...

Well, your cat’s name, or your birthday aren’t going to stand up well under a brute force attack. Actually, you can learn more about that attack type here and other types here . While there’s no “100% certain” way of protection, common sense, security software (updated), a good firewall, protection from “plug and play” devices like USB sticks and strong passwords for your accounts will do a good deal to help. Chrome has its own passwor...

Lots of improvements! Using it now and it's faster. Fixes/changes: Overhauled WebGL. It now properly supports depth textures, shadow mapping and glow shaders. Note that older operating systems or older/embedded video processors may be limited in their support of these features. Updated the ANGLE library to a much more current version. Removed the crash reporter code completely to improve overall browser responsiveness and operation. Please note that a necessary vic...
