Well, it's not the most recent of news, still... it's nice to see Stardock mentioned in an article. Seeing three apps mentioned is just that much better. "Windows customization is just another step in personalizing our computers. Just like we personalize our office space with our favorite coffee mug or family photos to make it more comfortable, Windows customization gives us a more comfortable environment to work in. Consequently we get things done faster and have an improved ef...

Firefox 7.0, contained a bug that hid  some or even all user ‘add-on’s  from those who updated a prior version of the browser to the latest stable one. After noticing the problem, Mozilla stopped the distribution of automatic updates to users running the stable version of the browser on their computer.   Firefox 7.01, the update that fixed the hidden add-on issue is now available for all users. It can be downloaded from the official website or via the w...

Many articles have been written about this topic, so it was really refreshing to find Farshad’s article at addictivetips.com because it’s clearly and simply written full of really useful steps to take and explaining why you should take them so clearly in an organized manner. the topics covered are pretty much summed up (but not limited to those) in the screenie below:     I enjoyed this one and thought I’d mention it for your perusal. For i...

I think full urls are an extremely important feature to have in order to prevent hacking by phony websites. The difference between http and https is significant. So Firefox 7 (newest release) decided it isn’t. How to change the browser’s mind about that? Most know the “about” feature in Firefox. It’s been around forever, and allows you to change features in the browser. So… you want full url’s back? Here’s how:   ...

Yesterday, Israel made available (digitally) the Dead Sea Scrolls to all interested in viewing them. They come with an magnify, outline and translate to English option. So… I thought, what better way to wish my friends here (and to everyone, everywhere) a “Happy New Year” than with one of my favorite quotes from Isaiah. I recently went to Photoshop school (Lesa Snider, G-d Bless you for the wonderful teacher you are!) with Hankers (and a special blessing to you...

OK…. I’m a wallpaper fiend. I freely admit it. Besides my fave artists here on WC, I cruise many sites looking for nature and themed walls. I also love photography. Some of the best photographic (and artistic) walls already sorted by theme are in the Microsoft Themepacks, imho. I don’t like W7 default Aero much, so how to preview the walls in the 146 MS themes for W7 without downloading and sorting through them? No worries. I’ll show you how. There&...

As some of us have found to our delight or chagrin (or both), Mark Zuckerberg announced two new features to facebook 1)  “ Timeline ” is "the story of your life" significantly altering the way people's information is shown on the world's leading social network, presenting "all your stories, all your apps, and a new way to express who you are.", Zuckerberg said, "It's how you can tell the whole story of your life on a single page." Zuckerberg said that Ti...

There are settings in W8 which aren’t accessible to users, but which folks might like to change. So, TheWindowsClub has the first W8 Tweaking Utility for you. The tweaks being currently offered in the freeware tweaker are: Disable Metro Start Menu: Disables only Metro Start Menu Screen. This function requires editing a System File. It does not remove the file. Disable Metro Ribbon: Disables only the Metro Ribbon UI. This function I discovered myself. It ...

So, you deleted the file. Done. Wrong. When you wish to delete any sensitive information, you want to be sure that it will be deleted permanently. “Basic deletion of a file does not remove the data, but simply renders it unreadable by the operating system  . This is why System Restore can resurrect file data to restore an operating system to a previous time. When data is basically deleted using the delete key or selecting Delete from a dropdown menu, a shadow copy is left behind. T...

Thor Olav Sørensen caught and listed what he could decypher from Steve Sinofsky’s teaser slide at the W8 Build Dev Conference. These aren’t “for sure” and some were not self explanatory… might be stuff in development or just ideas at this point. Still, it’s a pretty interesting list of “no promises, but…”. Here’s a partial quote of “The List” (sorry, you should have TM’d it, Po’): Battery Life Time/Battery/Date/Network status Browser Protection...

From Lifehacker, this morning: “MOG is an interesting type of music streaming service, with a Pandora-style "radio" feature from which you can save playlists, link to your desktop players, and more. Their free plan is similarly unique: instead of just giving you free, ad-supported access to the site, you "earn" free music by listening, sharing with friends, making playlists, and using MOG's features. The more you play with MOG, the more free music you can earn. Their prem...

Having difficulty in typing your documents?  Do you have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, arthritic problems, sight impairment or perhaps, like me severe laziness complicated by “fat finger syndrome” and just plain crappy typing skills (like me)? Well, speak and let Dictation Pro type for you.  Prepare your letters, reports, e-mails just by speaking into a microphone. A good-quality headset is required .  The Deskshare blurb does not go into detail as to which. Supposedl...

I hate those  pics which pop up when mousing over the right panel of the start menu in Vista and 7 . This will work for XP as well. I had to find a way to get rid of them. I think Giz told me how to do it, so I’m gonna share it with anyone who is like minded. You'll need  SkinStudio and Windowblinds , of course. So, let’s pick a skin to change:  Alluminate 2 (7) (by vStyler) . One I like a good deal, and it's one which I haven’t modded ye...

Guess I know where I’m storing a zillion walls… Windows Live SkyDrive is about to get a huge boost to the free storage space allowed with the service. Liveside reported earlier today that the popular Microsoft service will get a storage upgrade, allowing unlimited storage space for both Office documents and photos, leaving the original 25 GB for any other files you wish to store in the cloud. “So in order to satisfy the demands of the “cloud” generation, Micros...

Microsoft has announced that Windows 8 will allow users to create multiple virtual machines on a single computer. This only had been available on Microsoft's server version of Windows. “In brief, Hyper-V lets you run more than one 32-bit or 64-bit x86 operating system at the same time on the same computer. Instead of working directly with the computer’s hardware, the operating systems run inside of a virtual machine (VM).” "Hyper-V," allows users to make vir...
