Bravo for The Windows Club! I am now the proud owner of the the above error codes and their meanings. It’s a pdf having 533 pages and links from MS that will help you find the meanings of any error code. “It may amuse you to learn that Microsoft appears to have an error code even if the operation completes successfully! Check what it says for 0×00000000 : The operation completed successfully!” – TWC You should also take advantage of the “Events and Er...

EaseUS approached me to review their newest updated Todo Backup Workstation 4.5. I agreed to do so, because of my positive experience reviewing Todo EaseUS Partition Manager Pro 9.1. You can find that review here .   This software does everything you want it to do, through a simple user interface. Installation is a breeze, and what’s better is that there’s no reboot (as in prior editions). There’s a video that comes with it that explains various aspects of...

Was in a quandry where to post this. Could have gone to Support Forums, I suppose. Anyway, in Maxthon, IE9, Chrome and Pale Moon I get this. My system: Windows 7 HP x64, but I think it's more a coding issue. Anyone else seeing this?

Supposedly there’s been another cyber strike on Iran’s “peaceful/medical” nuclear program. Apparently this strike caused the computers at Natanz and Fordo to blare out “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC in the middle of the night (there). It also shut down part of the automation network according to Mikko Hypponen (a well known Finnish cyber-security expert at F-Secure). All this is coming via emails allegedly sent by an Iranian nuclear scientist. That m...

Just a quickie - There’s a great new “Guide To Home Networking” available over at MakeUseOf.com. You can get it in .pdf or ePub format. All you need do is either “share” on facebook, or subscribe to their (extremely minimal) emails… which are very informative. While you're there, they also have some great "cheat sheets" available at the same price . So, I stuck on a link for them, too.   Source: http://www.makeuseof.com...

NanomAbs – nanoparticle monoclonal chemotherapy. This is the next big thing. Cancer is treated three ways: Surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. Chemotherapy has made huge advances… but with a major drawbacks. The very toxicity that kills cancer cells also has severe ‘whole body’ adverse and side effects. Wouldn’t it be a lot more efficient to deliver the toxic drug directly to the target tissue and avoid exposing healthy tissue? Well, there&rsquo...

Many folks use external apps (Acronis, EaseUS, etc.) to backup their computers. Windows 8 might just change all that… so savings might be a good deal larger than the $40 upgrade, over the long term. Most folks don’t use MS’s backup utility (95%). “File History” will continuously protect files in your Libraries, Desktop, Favorites and Contacts folders. By default, it scans the file system every hour for changes and copies changed files to another location (ext. device), and...

It’s no coincidence. SOPA, PIPA, the new measure proposed in Australia and now the in the UK a bill has been proposed a bill which would allow officials to view metadata, like the names of files that were transferred, when and to whom messages were sent, and what websites have been accessed, without a warrant, which would be needed to actually view the content itself. Who could look? Well, pretty much everyone from Law Enforcement to Tax Inspectors. So, there are multiple pote...

Looks like the update has elements which don’t get along with older parts of the Symantec program, and has been crashing home and business computers. The reports started coming in on 7/11/12. After updating,  a BSOD resulted. So far, 300 corporate and 60 home system crashes have occurred. Symantec has offered a solution: Rollback of definitions until a final fix has been made. So, if you have the software and haven’t updated, DON’T! If you do have it, ...

Found out about this over at gHacks . The tool does several things:   These are all good things. Face it, few of us know all the right settings to put in. One good step not touched on by this tool is creating a “Guest Account” so that the installing, etc. you do isn’t done with “Administrator” privileges. That’s actually a HUGE step in securing your computer. Common sense browsing and the use of extensions like &ldquo...

No. I didn’t win one. Even if I did, no one would get it. BUT: Just found something interesting. Everyone with a WD-HDD can download and use the special edition Acronis-WD. It only works with WD HDD’s, though. Comes with a guide, too. You can get it here:  http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119 Supports XP, Vista and W7.

Turned on the computer this morning only to find 13 updates for my W7x64 system from MS. What’s in the patches? Three rated “Critical” one for vulnerabilities in IE9 and all to prevent remote code execution. Here’s what’s in it…   So… happy patch Tuesday 2.0.   Source: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/bulletin/ms12-jul

Many folks have asked for “medical stuff” (enough computer viruses how about human ones?) so, this is about some gadgetry which has caused an earthquake in the treatment of depression. Many folks have episodes of Depression through their lives, tied to events or not. In most, they resolve without the need for intervention. In many though, medications (thank G-d for them) are needed (and they work well for most, Mr. Cruise). They aren’t uniformly successful, and can...

Everyone hates a 404 message:  The client was able to communicate with the server, but the server couldn’t find the requested page. It’s an Internet standard. Which one of us likes “standard”?  Standard=Vanilla. We wouldn’t be on WC if “standard” was good enough. So… here are some funny and imaginative 404 pages which take a bit of the ‘sad’ out of the “It ain’t here, bud.” For a better lo...
