Just heard this one on the news, Yahoo's been breached to the tune of 200 million accounts. Not much to say beyond, "If you have an account on Yahoo, best to change your password." You can do that by signing in and then going to your account.   Update: It looks like the biggest breach in history: 500 million accounts' info breached, not 200 million as reported at first.

Rule 41 (a Federal Court procedure) if allowed to persist will allow magistrate judges to issue search warrants for the contents of any computer outside their jurisdiction, or multiple computers with a single warrant...so a single warrant for multiple computers in multiple jurisdictions. Efficient, right? Saves leos the trouble of explaining the need for a search warrant for each one. Even overseas. Well...if it were just against criminals...but it isn't. It appears that they...

Ghacks just reviewed what appears to be a new productivity tool...new in the sense that it goes way further than prior apps. There a free and a 'paid' version. You might be interested in taking a look at it here:  http://www.ghacks.net/2016/09/12/tidytabs-tabs-for-all-windows-programs/ It's got wide config choices (see the article). Here's a screenshot of how it would appear on a desktop:

I don't have to go to any great lengths for folks who have been watching the news and watching just some of the large effects of the hacking and hacktivism... "Snowden" (the movie) has just come out (my opinion is "not really objective")... But this article deals with the who's who of the groups engaging in this un-organised and organised crime, spying, etc. Worth the read, imo. The links are worth looking at, as well.   After reading the review in gHacks , I gave FullEventLogView a chance and was pleasantly surprised because of all the filters one can apply via the app. But first, it's portable and is an .exe file. Zero dlls, etc. to add before using it, and essentially zero disc space...it can live on a stick. Also, it displays all events until you apply a time interval to it, which allows you to hone into the problem a lot more quickly. If you want to load the events from remote computer on...

Just in from Neowin:  http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-has-finally-fixed-the-freezing-issue-in-the-windows-10-anniversary-update   If after installing this update you still are having a problem, MS has recommended the following: Option 1:  If you have a second administrator account on the PC that you can sign into, please do so and install the latest Windows 10 update, released on August 31st, 2016. After installing the update, reboot the PC and you should be...

Something definitely non-tech for your Sunday. How about a 360 ° tour of five National Parks? Google is offering this in celebration of the 100 year Anniversary of the National Parks Service. The parks include: The Kenjai Fjords of Alaska (with climbing and rappelling – stunning beauty!), Hawai'i Volcanoes (a drone over the craters), Carlsbad Caverns, Bryce Canyon and the Dry Tortugas (diving a shipwreck and Fort Jefferson). It's accessible right fro...

You may have gotten an email like this, recently:  “We’re reaching out to let you know that if you haven’t updated your Dropbox password since mid-2012, you’ll be prompted to update it the next time you sign in. This is purely a preventative measure, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience. To learn more about why we’re taking this precaution, please visit this page on our Help Center.   There's a new twist in the ransomware game. Some (presumably) Russian cyber criminals have found a new way to deliver 'the goods' named "Fantom". They come disguised as a “Windows Update”, complete with a fake Windows Update screen pretending to be performing a “critical update”. This is the 'a.exe' file included with the encrypter, called 'WindowsUpdate.exe'. It even has a 'percent installed' meter and a warning not to turn o...

It's no secret that W10 shares 'anonymized' data with MS. It's also not a secret that this bugs not a few people, for various reasons. MS has said that the user cannot shut off all data sharing: "Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 10 data collection is something that cannot be stopped. This report comes days after Microsoft announced that it will aggressively push Windows 10 to Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users in the future. In an interview with PC World, Micros...

It's one of those stories you just can't make up. More power to Ed Bott at ZDNet: "If you want to be a Windows expert, one of the most important lessons to learn is skepticism. Whenever someone claims to have a magic fix-it tool or a MakeRocketShipGoFast registry tweak, you should keep it away from any system you care about until you can confirm it does what it says it does... One of the first red flags for me was the information embedded in the file itself. It has a copyr...

Pretty ironic when you realize MS was on Apple's side of the "unlocking" controversy. MS  itself forgot to keep its own keys to Windows tablets, phones, HoloLens and other devices using UEFI Secure Boot safe and secure. "Secure Boot is a built into the firmware of computer or the software as the case may be, allowing the computer/software to make failsafe checks before booting. Microsoft built Secure Boot to handle different types of malware specifically the ro...

As if the phony emissions testing wasn't enough? That 'keyless' entry fob? Not very secure, it turns out. In fact, it's eminently hackable... Volkswagen does have an 'immobilizer' built in, but it isn't perfect...so, your car could be broken into, and maybe that's the device we saw being used on Jeeps? Anyway, the older (1998) HT2 chips were easily hackable, too. "Professor Srdjan Capkun of ETH Zurich found himself perched on the fenc...

Ghacks published a notification regarding the new, updated Revo Uninstaller version - both the free and 'paid' versions. I'm looking at the free edition, and to be honest it isn't offering a whole lot. The linked page should show you the comparison of the two versions, but it really doesn't go into any detail. The paid version is an excellent program which even creates a restore point for instabilities caused by 'aggressive' cleaning of remnants. The newe...

I wrote a recent article about this…and that Mark Zuckerberg and James Comey put tape over theirs: http://drjbhl.joeuser.com/article/478305/Webcams_and_disabling_thempro_and_con When writing about this, little did I suspect that a month later I’d come across this… http://www.techworm.net/2016/07/hackers-capture-pc-user-wanking-demand-10000-ransom-not-leaking-video.html But I did, and as we all know… So…a bit of humor for your Sunday…and a salute to Matt for his...
