Miguel Ferrer, a fine character actor whose most recent role was assistant director Owen Granger on NCIS: Los Angeles , has died at age 61, of throat cancer. He was George Clooney's cousin. Ferrer, a veteran of a host of TV dramas and movies, began his career in the early 1980s with guest shots on TV series, such as Trapper John M.D. and Miami Vice . In 1990 he scored a signature role as FBI Agent Albert Rosenfield on David Lynch's sm...
If you buy stuff on Amazon...if you haven't, you probably will, sometime, you probably check out buyer reviews...with some it's easy to spot a fake review. Others, not so much. So, it isn't news (I hope) that sellers like good reviews and there's a group of folks who earn money by 'reviewing' products for pay. Many sites don't do this, allowing only buyers to leave reviews, but there are 'work arounds' such as sending the 'reviewer' sample...
Adni18...Master skinner Nikos...has a lovely website which (to my great embarrassment) I've never written about. It here: http://wwa.adni18.com/ and has photography, themes and wallpapers, screenshots and more. Folks like teddybearcholla, relhom, our departed friend jazzilady, and sed posted there as well as here, and have been featured there, as well. Many of you know submicron's work from devArt and is featured there as well. So, if you're looki...
On February 20, 1962, Glenn flew the Friendship 7 mission and became the first American to orbit the Earth... John Herschel Glenn Jr. (July 18, 1921 – December 8, 2016) was an American aviator , engineer , astronaut , and United States Senator from Ohio . He was one of the " Mercury Seven " group of military test pilots selected in 1959 by NASA to become America'...
I've written before about creativeLive and getting free lessons using Photoshop and Lightroom. If are a portrait or landscape photographer, and are looking to go beyond 'the usual', this is one great way. I always wanted to learn how to paint. I can sketch, and I can use Photoshop (Lightroom, a lot less), so I've tried in various ways to merge photos with painting...watercolors and oil, without going to the expense of buying materials and going to classes, etc.

Enough of hacking and hackers. There’s no end to it in sight. There’s something amazing about photography, though. Want some great wallpapers? Well you can get them at National Geographic…even the winners of the annual contest. They come only in 1600 x 1200 for desktops, but there are Tablet and Phone walls available with each picture. You may not like the walls, as they come with NatGeo advertising at the bottom, but you can’t help but love the photos. So, some b...
Remember them. It’s about those great activities we’re all doing with the ones we love, today…and it’s about so much more. Let’s be grateful…my dad would always put a paper plate with a hot dog and a beer at an empty place at the table on this day. When I was old enough to be curious, I asked why. He told me…and I never forgot. Thank them this day, for all the other days.
Ben Willmore did LightroomCC: The Complete Guide about a month ago, and next he’ll be teaching PhotoshopCC. Ben’s a great instructor, and this will be a three week course as well. It will be (if I can use LightroomCC as a guide), an hour to two hour lesson every day, which will repeat during the day and then the week’s lessons will repeat over the weekend. I think. ANyway, the lessons will be free and if you purchase anytime access, you’ll get files and...
One of my favorites…Morley Safer. Forty six seasons on 60 Minutes. He was due to retire and that was announced just last week. He was born in Toronto…earned a Lifetime Achievement Emmy in 2009. He also collected 12 Emmy Awards, three Peabody Awards, two Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia University Awards, two George Polk Memorial Awards and the Paul White Award from the the Radio/Television News Directors Association. It was one helluva career…he even caused change of the Army’s R...
Folds like a book, lighter than the weight requiring an FAA license (less than 250 grams)…your own paparazzi and faithful puppy. This is truly cool…even the holes for air are too small to allow adult fingers to be hurt. It hovers and follows or leads…you can play a sort of frisbee game with it…a $600 frisbee, that is. Anyway, it’s here: http://gethover.com/ Nice article at Engadget: http://www.engadget.com/2016/04/26/hover-camera-drone-zero-zero-robotics/...
Sorry to relay this to you folks. Apparently his body was discovered at his home in Minnesota early this morning. He had to cancel a few shows recently…the latest because of the “flu”. He sold more than 100 million records in his career, 7 Grammys…who’ll forget “Purple Rain” or “While my Guitar Gently Weeps” in 2004? He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, was married twice. Anyway, sorry to...
Daylight Savings Time. What a hoax. When did all this nonsense start? Ben Franklin invented it…as a half joke, and a dig at the French: “Money would be saved, Franklin argued, if people rose with the sun and turned in earlier at night, replacing hours of expensive candle use with free morning daylight.” – National Geographic But no one took it seriously…well, maybe some French folks, but apparently they didn’t lose any sleep over it. ...

Not seeing a whole lot reportable in tech at the moment, so…Zika! Don't panic. Please. When I was in Jump School, there was a sign at the gate of the training instruments which read, "Knowledge prevents fear." My response was unprintable, and in a mixture of Hebrew and Arabic. This is the Zika virus…it’s an RNA virus which doesn’t specifically target any tissue (like brain in developing fetuses), but which is an equal opportunity infection. It isn&rsquo...
