Ramblings of an old Doc

MS has released IE 10 – probably in the hope that it will win back folks who’ve migrated to Firefox and Chrome. Wanna bet?

Currently Firefox holds 20% and Chrome holds 17% of the browser market while IE (all editions) holds about 55%.

Since IE10 was tied to W8, it’s exposure has been limited (apart from the “preview”). Since W8 is only at 2.3%, MS is releasing IE 10 to try and compete independently from W8.

And watch out for the little check box “I would like Bing and MSN defaults”. You’ll have to uncheck that on the download page if you don’t want them.

I was just over at the Winamp Forums. Everyone is just livid over the issue of IE 10 disabling Shoutcast Radio. It's frustrating I know. I would love to continue to use IE 10 but I love & use my Shoutcast Radio way too much to make that sacrifice. I hope the folks at Winamp create an upgrade soon to resolve the issue.        -- Ace --

Microstuff seems to be creating an atmosphere similar to Apple's where the only apps and/or hardware have to be MAC approved and third party stuff gets the boot. Oh well.....maybe we'll see an Android OS for desktops and such. That'd be cool I think.

err...are you in the right thread?

1 What does WinRT have to do with IE10?

2 WinRT has absolutely nothing to do with hardware.

Perhaps IE10 is Microsoft's "I'm sorry" for making Win8?

Tool to set a registry setting to prevent autoupdate. That way your computer is spared this latest version.

Odd.  The IE10 update comes up in the 'Important updates' list but is unchecked by default.  Win7 Pro 64b.  I'm set to 'notify' before D/L'ing any updates, FWIW.

I'm set to: 'Just leave me alone, I'll check for updates when I'm darn good and ready'.

Can't install on my laptop either. Says it needs SP1 or higher.

Answer to #1 - Never said one had anything to do with the other.

To #2 - Didn't say that either.

Given all the to do with IE and Win8, one works not all the time and the other is getting a bad rap before its really out there, is it any wonder Microsoft seems to be going that way. There's the MS Store like the Apple Store, third party apps go home. MS wants IE to be 'the' browser. Like Apple does with Safari. Apple is basically proprietary. MS looks like its going the same way. That's what I meant.
