Ramblings of an old Doc

MS has released IE 10 – probably in the hope that it will win back folks who’ve migrated to Firefox and Chrome. Wanna bet?

Currently Firefox holds 20% and Chrome holds 17% of the browser market while IE (all editions) holds about 55%.

Since IE10 was tied to W8, it’s exposure has been limited (apart from the “preview”). Since W8 is only at 2.3%, MS is releasing IE 10 to try and compete independently from W8.

And watch out for the little check box “I would like Bing and MSN defaults”. You’ll have to uncheck that on the download page if you don’t want them.

Well , I don't know, but I did throw it in the blender and it blended fine.....         -- Ace --

EDIT : Yes , apparently WB is skinning IE 10 from what I'm seeing here on my machine.

Unfortunately since IE8 isn't going anywhere yet, it's just one more version to support.

IE10 is damn good for a change.  I haven't been arsed to switch back from it to Chrome at all.

True, but that's your decision.  Google already told IE8 users to piss off.

It actually shocked me anyone was actually willing to take a stance on supporting browsers until the end of time.

I installed IE10 and it causes Areo transparency to stop working. Or more to the point update KB2670838 that gets installed with IE10 breaks Areo. I don't know if it only happens with people that have windowblinds installed.

No problem here after installing IE 10. I had to see how fast it was out of curiosity. Nearly as fast as Chrome on my machine, about the same as Firefox.

Good info.  Thanks.

For myself, the forums (coming from Sins) have slowly become an absolute mess over time...no quote/reply/edit buttons are appearing, the layout of things (text, avatars) is really screwy and some pages (my replies) are completely unreadable...

I understand that it takes time and is a pain to support multiple (and new) browsers, but IE10 has been out since the end of October...

That's 4 months...

I find it rather concerning that a company who specializes in windows product doesn't have a website compatible with IE10...what bothers me more is that it was compatible, and now isn't after "updates"...

Yeah, like an update has never broken anything.

Didn't break anything here...

Thanks for the link Doc.  I'm happily using IE10.

Said it before. These forums would be better if they were based on vBullentin software.
