Ramblings of an old Doc

MS has released IE 10 – probably in the hope that it will win back folks who’ve migrated to Firefox and Chrome. Wanna bet?

Currently Firefox holds 20% and Chrome holds 17% of the browser market while IE (all editions) holds about 55%.

Since IE10 was tied to W8, it’s exposure has been limited (apart from the “preview”). Since W8 is only at 2.3%, MS is releasing IE 10 to try and compete independently from W8.

And watch out for the little check box “I would like Bing and MSN defaults”. You’ll have to uncheck that on the download page if you don’t want them.

Ah yea. Firefox/NoScript plugin is about all I ever use.

I can't get IE 10 to install on my laptop.  Maybe I'm fortunate.

I had to uninstall  IE10. My Shoutcast Radio in Winamp stopped working and I lost transparency on window frames. Went back to IE9 and everything is working again......hmmm...that says something to me.       -- Ace ---

I uninstalled the Platform update from a few days ago and IE10 installed ok. I hope I don't regret it.

I do appreciate the informative posts and the other kind, well, no one cares what browser you use.

If one gives 10 a test drive and decides to go back to 8 can that be done. TOL, maybe a simple restore point would work?

Some folks have found that un-installing KB2670838 has reversed the transparency/dream Codec problems.

My thanks to the folks who appreciate the posts.

   I do, Doc!

I have been using IE10 since I got Windows 8 Preview (and now Windows 8 Pro). I could not post to any forum on WC in IE10. After searching for a solution (I read somewhere) that tracking protection(s) like Abine could be the problem. So I disabled Abine, restarted IE10 and magic! Since then if I want to post on WC I just disable Abine and turn it back on when I finish posting. I have had no other problems with IE10. I like it, it is fast, stable, and nice to use.

If anyone knows how to fix the double preview thumbnails on WC home page, let me know.

It's the only problem I see.

Yep, me too....I had the same issue but failed to mention that in my above reply.

Actually? It's the only problem you see double.

If you use Mozilla (ff, Pale Moon) or Chrome what you see is a reflection. In IE that reflection is rendered without the gradient, therefore appearing opaque or "double".

The "problem" is the rendering of the Forum code for that gradient. If there were no gradient and just a simple image, there wouldn't be a "problem" at all.

Ahhhhh...ok, then that explains it. I was baffled as to why that problem was occuring.

The main product I work with is an online product requiring IE.  Needless to say, I had MANY clients calling today to ask why the product looked and acted different.  IE10 just automatically downloaded and installed and nobody in IT gave them the heads-up.

PITA it has been.

It's happening because of the Forum Matrix.
