Windows latest reported on a possible first AI feature addition to Windows 11 in the article linked above. Smart snap already exists which appears on mousing over the maximize button after enabling Smart snap in System>Settings>Multitasking>Snap Windows. The addition of AI will add the ability of the system to learn preferred window size per app, apparently, and in a layout you choose which can be reapplied in a single click. The Windows Latest article has a gif illustrating this. ...

The new Winamp is here as a customizable (on your machine) streaming webservice with video, audio, fanzone... which you can read about here:  https://www.ghacks.net/2023/04/12/the-new-winamp-player-will-launch-on-april-13-2023/ So, you create an account, and download the player which has a very cool flat black look, and then discover that "the new Winamp player does not support integrating a local music library or online library of audio files to an account...This leaves a very s...

Another reason to get Start11: M$ is planning to advertise on the W11 start menu...as if it weren't crappy enough as it is. Even if Start11 can't rid us of their adverts, we can switch to the W10 or W7 menus.  from windowslatest   This first appeared in the optional March update, but will be in the April or May update as non-optional. For now, there's a way to shut it down via an optional toggle to Settings > Personalization > Start, so you can easily disable...

This just in from Carl, aka c242. Here's the translation via the Deskmodder.de site: "As with the previous optional update in February, Microsoft has renewed the notice that third-party applications such as Explorerpatcher, TranslucentTB or similar tools cause problems with the  current KB5023774  or for Windows 11 22H2 the  KB5022913  can come. Microsoft therefore recommends uninstalling this tool in advance, as it did last month. Microsoft itself will not do anything...

Damn it, Jim...I'm a Doctor, not a writer! Dr. McCoy  could  have said that, but he didn't: I did, and the Jim isn't Cap't. Kirk, he's RnD. Jim suggested I do an article about deepfakes (per Merriam Webster: an image or recording that has been convincingly altered and manipulated to misrepresent someone as doing or saying something that was not actually done or said). I decided to expand on that to include the pluses and minuses (the good and bad, if you will) of AI...even to the good...

Taras Buria brings soon to come changes to Edge to us in the article linked above at Neowin. I recommend reading the original article there. Buria reports and links other articles regarding improvements namely some positive changes such as an improved password monitor, a new productivity feature (two tabs in one window), and reimagining (Project Phoenix) - Mica treatment and rounded corners, as well as the subject of this: "Discover": (image credit Neowin) The new button will pop ...

MS is at it again. The "it" is deceptive advertising regarding the upgrade from W10 to W11. The upper picture is the upgrade screen as it appears on the W10 screen, a  "full-screen Windows 11 ad offering to upgrade to the latest operating system. And in typical Microsoft fashion, available options are as head-scratching as it gets: two buttons, and both mean "I agree." - Taras Buria, Neowin The blue and white buttons (red arrows) both mean to "upgrade". The yellow arrow points to t...

Everything toolbar and search replace W10, and now W11 search function handily, as well. gHacks also notes it will be supported by W12 when it comes, too. "Windows users may also notice that the search app supports automatic light and dark modes as well as accent colors. The interface should apply these automatically based on the system settings. Another helpful feature is that users may right-click on search results to access the Windows context menu. Useful to run copy, open with or del...

Well, MS did it again...an update which sabotages your computer. "Last Friday was a rather unlucky day for Windows users and system administrators worldwide. According to multiple reports, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint turned into a shortcut and file "killer" that fateful day, after the security suite began to delete application shortcuts from the Windows Taskbar and Start Menu, sometimes even removing the linked program files from disk. The issue was experienced by multiple system admins...

Every year, Sophos puts out an expected threat profile based on events, etc. I won't bother summerizing their report, as it's available for free at the external link above, and it's quite interesting to read. From the linked page: "The gloves came off in 2022. While Russia-based threat actor groups spread misinformation and launched multiple cyberattacks against Ukraine, China-based (and likely sponsored) threat actor groups attacked hardware security products made by nearly every compan...
