A camera used in crime scene documentation has been adapted to enable a video viewer to observe an event or scene choosing to observe it at any angle he or she desires. Simply Live (the company which developed it) has produced this video which I saw on "Arutz 7" (Israeli Channel 7 News) and thought you all might be interested in seeing:       To read the article click on the external link, or here: http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/143323  ...

Well, we’ve had a week or two to try out ie9, ff4 and Chrome10. Cnet.com (Seth Rosenblatt) has run some benchmarks on the three (Opera and Safari not included because they haven’t been updated recently) and the results have been published. Using Google’s benchmark, Chrome 10 came out a big winner, but they tailored their browser to that benchmark. Boot time didn’t fare as well. Using JSGamesbench, ff4 won and Kraken showed for ie9. FF4 should do much b...

Didn’t start getting into Fonts as part of customization, and I’m not sure why! Maybe Windows hardcoding… maybe ignorance. Anyway, I think Master Skinner Po’ Smedley mentioned this site… maybe it was in an email… not sure (a blessing of being old). Anyway, fonts are definitely part of art and an art in itself, even if there’s no Gallery (yet). Fontstruct.com is a free site which can help you get started with font building. Registration is definitely noninvasive, and ...

Google has announced Kansas City to be the test site for it’s 1 gig/sec Internet connection. While that’s fast , it’s not the fastest (China, for example). This vid illustrates (for me, at least) the biggest controversy in Internet services: Capping and Regulation.   Superfast Internet is a welcome development for many reasons: Educational, entertainment, research, etc. While we have this incredible technology, it would seem we also have cou...

Came across this at Lifehacker and thought of youse guys and girls. If you have an old style keyboard of are a lazy booger like me, Volumouse2 (Nirsoft) is definitely for you. Volumouse is very customizable. You set the mouse function and under what conditions the wheel will act as the volume control. In other words it’s not an “either-or” scroll wheel or volume control, and can set 12 different rules governing the conditions governing it’s behavior.   ...

This really isn’t very involved. I was looking at two sets of numbers:   MS just launched ie9. Supposedly faster and more secure. There are a lot of qualifiers to that. But, even if there weren’t, I still don’t get how they think. Granted, over the seven months, XP’s share dropped 10% (54% to 44%). IE’s share dropped 10% also (36% to 26%) while the big winner was Chrome (10% to 24%). So why didn’t they make ie9 for XP which...

Well, a weird thing happened the other day (and not for the first time). Turns out if you visited/commented on Facebook, you (and 10% of web traffic) took a trip to China, South Korea and back. Yep: Route-Jacking. Facebook traffic for AT&T customers was routed through Chinese and Korean servers for some unspecified amount of time, raising privacy concerns. Some of the network traffic heading to Facebook’s servers in Palo Alto, Calif., was re-routed to first p...

Over at Lifehacker , there’s a super piece of software (granted, still in Beta) for video editing for free. Lightworks , according to Adam Dachis (who really knows his stuff) is really worth it, and the folks at at Lightworks have taken it open source so all you have to do is to register there to download and keep it. This is not trialware. Although I can’t promise it, I believe updates will be free also. There’s a Forum there where you can ask question...

Two cool articles for you to take a loook at and hopefully find useful, today… The first? A fundamental how to get started (just part one as the series only started today) with Video Editing. This is very exciting since I know there are perspective Dream skinners out there! Even if you don’t want to dedicate yourself to that great art form, the lessons will teach you how to work with, edit and improve videos you might have shot or inherited…. Wouldn’t it be great to breat...

Went to CNET.com to see what’s new and (of course) went to “Desktop Enhancement” and found: Congrats Stardock!

Just passing this along. The Mozilla website hasn’t been updated as of now, but my ff4RC updated today…as will yours if you participated in the beta testing program. Still, it’s problematic…. doesn’t show the vids I can see with Opera 11.01 on WC. Neither does ie9.   If you’re forever being asked to “Come over for a visit, and btw, fix my computer, pleeeease!”, or even if only for your own needs, IObit Toolbox is “It”. I recommend it highly! It’s a free, portable collection of software tools that system administrators and (really) just anyone can take along to solve PC problems anytime and anywhere on a flash drive. It can also be installed on your home system. "With more than 20 dedicated tools (26 to be...

Microsoft has brought down Rustock , a notorious botnet responsible for sending billions of spam emails, the company said in a blog post. Microsoft said the botnet had infected millions of computers and was sending out fake Microsoft lottery scams, and offers to sell fake prescription drugs. Here is some detail from Microsoft’s blog: “Today, I’m happy to announce that based on the knowledge gained in that effort, we have successfully taken down a larger,...

Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols over at ZDNet summed it up pretty neatly for me and revealed problems and vulnerabilities which I didn’t know about. Quoting just the highlights (see the review for details): Operating system incompatibilities : XP is ignored. Whether it’s a dinosaur or not, it’s one of MS’s OS’s and this, to me at least, just isn’t playing fair. Performance : FF4 betas and Chrome outperform it on the majority of benchmarks. H...
