Ramblings of an old Doc
Welcome to Windows as a Service (WaaS)

Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols isn't paranoid. He's actually rather smart, and his reasoning is excellent. I'm not an anti-W11er for no reason. I felt all along the it was essentially unnecessary, as W10 could be continually developed, and that the processor requirement and TP2 dustup were basically nonsense because as long as code will exist, hackers will as well, and no code is un-hackable.

"Yes, the Windows 11 security updates are good — if you have the right hardware. But  as I pointed out recently, you can already use those security updates if you're running the Windows 10 20H2 release (Windows 10 October 2020 Update). So the point in upgrading from Windows 10 to 11 is…what, exactly?" - Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols

I come from a time when the desktop was the revolution...you were given control over your data, word processing, publishing, etc. It was wonderful, if buggy at times. Remember W7? It was great. So is W10! W11 is the tube to DaaS.

DaaS isn't bad except for one thing: You will no longer have control over your OS. You won't be calling the shots, M$ will, and it'll cost a pretty penny, too. Microsoft 365 goes for $33 (US) per month...and will go up. What will W11 OS cost? Count on it. X-Box will be an additional cost, too.

"What I think is important is that, in combination with the subscription feature, this makes it easier for you to pay not just for Microsoft 365, but for Windows itself. No longer will Windows be a one-and-done purchase. It will be forever a subscription service with only one foot in your PC and the other ever more firmly in the cloud...Microsoft sneaked a Microsoft subscription manager into the February 2022 Windows 11 update. Check it out: look into the Windows 11 Settings menu > Accounts and you'll find a new section called "Your Microsoft account." There, you’ll find your Microsoft 365 subscription status, how full your OneDrive cloud storage is, and other details." -

Maybe it pays for a business, I can't opine regarding that.

For me, it's the sneaky, M$y way this is all being done that really causes me great concern, and may well be my exit point from the M$ world. W11 Home users initially required having an M$ account which they could later delete. W11 Pro users had to have an M$ account which they could not later remove and still have W11 Pro. And ask yourselves, "Why do I need an M$ account to dl and install the upgrade which was supposed to be "free"? Well, what's your privacy (nonexistent) worth?

Quoting RedneckDude,

Quoting Jafo,

Quoting don5318,

I got a slab of stubby for you Paul!

Sounding good...

I really wish you guys would speak english. What the hell is a slab of stubby?  Sounds kinda kinky if you ask me.

Yes....what we learn from the thread is what Aussies are talking about when it's all about beer.

A 'stubby' is not a long-neck (that'll help)......

It's a small bottle...usually about 375mls....or half a long-neck 750ml.

A 'slab' is a pack of 24 stubbies (or cans) and is usually more economical than a six-pack... which is exactly that.....6 stubbies or cans....

We call those smaller bottle stubbies too peeps, they became popular in the UK when inventive people decided to go over the Channel to the big French Hyper markets to but them in Bulk saving paying British Tax which is huge for Booze and Fags (cigarettes). Then European Supermarkets like Aldi come to the UK bringing the Stubby With them.

We call a ten pack of Stubbies a Slab as it is the same shape as a slab of Ice Cream used with flat wafers.

My question to you Doc would be , why do you doubt this

Because it will be a very profitable move for MS, because edge is getting a "free VPN" lol, which demands a sign in from a MSaccount to be used...and reports all your browsing to MS:

https://forums.wincustomize.com/512023/edge-is-getting-a-free-vpn

And because of all the articles I quoted in response #99. It's going to happen, and the AI/ML updater will make sure you comply or be marked "noncompliant" and not be updated, etc...or whatever they decide to do.

Hi Doc.

That did not answer my question.

I asked that you must have seen all the previous unliked stuff MS has done over the years. Every time a none liked change has been made, peeps who experiment, companies and IT pros alike find a way to reverse said changes, so the question is

Why do you think this change will not get the same treatment and reversed.

This is not about IF this will happen, or how profitable MS thinks it will be, or being marked incompliant by MS.

Every Poor change MS has pushed on us has been fixed in one way or another, why do you think, This Change is not the same???

I am sorry Doc if my replies seem to bug you, that is not my intent, my intent is just to tell you, others will always and i mean always, push back and change things MS do, if the masses do not like the change, this change will be no different at all. They make us none compliant, that will be fixed too. MS even though they try to control my online use, will fail, it is the way of things , as long as there are peeps who will kick back at MS changes, this will happen over and over just like it has done for years without exception. Believe me, this is not any kind of exception.

Trust the Poms to call a 10 a 'Slab' ...probably can't stomach more at any one sitting as the English beer is cats' piss...

A 'real' slab is 24, or 4x6.

Then we have the 'Darwin Stubby'.  Let's just say it's not 375ml ...

That did not answer my question.

Yes, yes it does. Can't answer any better. You've received all the sources regarding their AI/ML software. You think they can't block your efforts? Good luck. Ask MS...they're the ones with the plan.

I feel like having a slab myself, about now.

Ok Doc,

i think we have leave this one bee. It was not about AI, or the articles you kindly provided, it was about every single bad change MS has every made and how those changes has been either negated, reversed or made better or easier to use, and more importantly, why you think this future change will not be any different.

I would not ask MS the time of Day, even if i thought they may be telling the truth as MS Lies, thanks Doc, but i will as always , walk my own path. Thankyou for your good luck wishes however intended.

I totally agree. Hang on to all your old and favorite software too. It's a matter of time. If not careful will be like W7 (SUBSCRIPTIONS)...

Always a good idea, i have archived all my older editions of Programs etc.. and have done for years as you never know if and when you need to use an older edition due to issues or features added or removed. Then when i am happy with a program, i go over those stored editions periodically. I have over 30TB of storage, so space is not an issue, so why not.
