Ramblings of an old Doc

The defective patches was at first just KB2982791 part of the MS14-045 Security Bulletin (HERE). You can read the known issues there.

Then it turned out there were 3 more defective patches: Including KB 2970228 -- a non-security update applied to Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 systems. The other two problem patches, KB 2975719 and KB 2975331 were both applied to Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012.

So far, MS is recommending uninstalling the problem patches.

Hey MS…how about a Kamikaze Patch Monday – where the insanely brave and super savvy tech guys volunteer to download and test your stuff before the hapless herd gets their boxes borked by your less than optimally tested crap?

Hmmmm, not having any BSOD's here in either OS and all updates are installed. (Knocks on WOOD)!

After reading the articles and what happened to people..... I checked and I have those updates, along with a bunch more. In fact it was an odd update, last Friday.  But nothing has happened to my pc. So do I uninstall those  (2982791, 20960028, 2075710 and 2975331) or not?

Thanks for any help.

I don't have any of those installed and no updates are available for my system. That a good or bad thing?

^^^

@ kona,   I don't know......guess it depends on whether or not you're feeling left out!

Only one for Win7...gone.

Thanks for the heads up, Doc.

No problems here.

Teddybearcholla,

My personal view on rolling back / uninstalling updates is only if you specifically are experiencing issues.

I know other people feel differently, so use your own judgement, there.

on Aug 20, 2014

MS advised uninstalling the update regardless, presumably to avoid the right set of circumstances triggering a related BSOD.  The principal update was installed on all 3 of my Win7 rigs and one of the other 3 mentioned was installed on only one of them.  Removed them all without issue.  FWIW

just curious were these critical or optional updates. I generally only update the critical ones and have had no problems... yet.

In my case they had to have been 'important' as I've never installed any optional updates.
