I dislike toolbars and their propensity to track you and who knows what else. Many folks have a really tough time trying to remove them and their vestiges. This tool works. You can read about it and download it here: http://thisisudax.org/ and there’s a review here: http://www.ghacks.net/2013/04/22/junkware-removal-tool-uninstalls-popular-toolbars-and-unwanted-software-from-your-pc/?_m=3n%2e0038%2e858%2ehj0ao01hy5%2evtf There’s no choice about which to r...

The Marketplace Fairness Act… at least it used to be called that, is now being pushed through the Senate. Thanks for the “fairness”. They probably won’t even read it… as usual. “Proponents argue the proposal confirms the ability of states to charge sales taxes as they see fit, and they have begun to frame the issue as a matter of states’ rights. In a letter to the Senate, David French of the National Retail Federation argued the tax changes are needed to modernize the market...

My take on this is that MS has seen its lackluster sales along with the popularity of apps like Start8 (and to be honest, others) and ModernMix along side Windows 8. These figures aren’t “worrisome” to MS. They are a “Gallup Poll” of sorts for MS and hopefully, MS will use the results correctly. I truly hope Stardock continues to offer up software which simply put, just makes it better and easier. However, MS hasn’t been blessed with the li...

The update incorrectly identified Windows system files as being malware, and prevented these critical .exe and .dll files from running. As you can imagine, this caused serious problems. That faulty update has been yanked and fixed, so you can allow your software to update. A repair/fix tool was issued within hours.   Still, if anything has happened to you after an Antimalwarebytes update, here’s a link to the story: http://www.techspot.com/news/5229...

Lightroom is really the ideal photographer’s tool – especially when used in conjunction with Photoshop - has been updated by Adobe and our own Island Dog has written about it. Lightroom 5 new features: Advanced Healing Brush: Enhancements to the Spot Removal tool allow you to heal or clone using brush strokes. A new “Visualize Spots” tool highlights sensor dust spots for easy removal. Radial Filter: Apply any of Lightroom’s local adj...

Dani and Renato… this article is especially for you and any other member from Brazil, but applies to all using Windows. "We are aware that some of our customers may be experiencing difficulties after applying security update 2823324 , which we provided in security bulletin MS13-036 on Tuesday, April 9," Dustin Childs, group manager of Response Communications at Microsoft Trustworthy Computing, wrote on the Microsoft Security Response blog late last night.” App...

Meet “vSkimmer”. Say you wanted to be secure and not do business over the internet. You just wanted to go to the store and buy what you needed and “pay” at the register. That’s secure, right? Wrong. In the past you bought gas and used the credit card swiper at the pump. Well, the machine could be “crooked” and record your card and then someone could take them off the machine. The solution was simple. Just pay with cash. Stores are secure, though. Nope. Well, not for t...

“This discount code won’t last, but if you don’t feel you’re ready for the Creative Cloud at $29/month or would just need/use a single Adobe tool instead at this time, then there’s also the option of individual product subscriptions such as Photoshop CS6 (including the latest updates) for $19/month. For students and teachers the deal is similar – Adobe is also offering 40% (or $20) off Cloud memberships to education customers world...

What a day… the Iron Lady and now my Mouseketeer… Annette was perfect… until 1992 when she shocked us with her notification that she had developed MS. She bore it like a hero.. no whining, no complaints. Just her beautiful smile. Walt Disney spotted her at a dance rehearsal – she was 13. Then, she rocketed with 8,000 fan letters (not emails) per month… ten times what others received. She became a recording star, she starred with Frankie Av...

My condolences to all our British members, indeed to all in Britain and to those in the Commonwealth. The Iron Lady, a Woman of Valor, a fearless and unapologetic Prime Minister and gallant British subject has gone to her final reward. She did her job. She did it well. She and Reagan were largely responsible for the fall of the USSR. Margaret Thatcher gone at 87 had suffered for many years from a series of strokes. Despite that, she came out of her very private retirement to h...

Just saw this at gHacks.net. Dr.Web CureIt is an excellent program. A true “go to”. The new features in the scanner are: Implemented a rootkit search subsystem. Added options to scan the BIOS of the PC for so called bioskits that have infected the BIOS of the computer. Added a native quarantine manager. Added an option to block all network traffic during scans. Added an option to shut down the system after the scan. Added an option ...

The Windows Club is a very good resource site.. for all stuff Windows. They do miss the first and most important thing to do: Create a “Guest Account” without Administrator privileges and work/surf from that account. I wish the_Monk would write what he said he would about securing your computer as he does have a really good understanding of the subject… and how much you can really accomplish without using software. Well, until he does this article http://www.thewind...

Roger Ebert was the consummate film critic, journalist and screenwriter. He was the first film critic to win a Pulitzer Prize, and the first to be awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He lost his fight with cancer today… but he won’t be forgotten. Not by me. Something he wrote is particularly important and memorable (for me): “‘Kindness’ covers all of my political beliefs, no need to spell them out. I believe that if, at the end, ac...

Important stuff in the works for this Patch Tuesday. You can get much more detailed information here:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/bulletin/ms13-apr “Microsoft will release an updated version of the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool on Windows Update, Microsoft Update, Windows Server Update Services, and the Download Center.” also.   I’ve written about them before… not much response, but not giving up. Here’s April’s schedule of free webinars. There’s stuff like Lightroom 101, and Jared Platt will be teaching every module in Adobe Lightroom over 3 days. There’s plenty of other stuff as well… Cruise on over and take a look. There are courses for purchase as well… http://www.creativelive.com/
