You might well have thought Windows 12 was a joke of sorts, but no...I wasn't pulling your leg here.

Windows 12 (MS Project Next Valley) is real...and it's being predicted for 2024.

You can read more in the linked article under this article's title, with more at Tom's Hardware and at XDA.

Have a good Sunday, oh...and...

A very happy birthday to a certain RedneckDude known as Jim in these here parts!  🥳 🎂

I think it is now common knowledge that Windows 12 will be released near the end of 2024.

Well that's good in a way since Win10 support is good until October 2025.

Wouldn't it be the pits to buy a new machine for Win11 between now and then only to find out it wouldn't run Win12?  I've no idea how likely that would be, but it would really torque me.

Yeah it would. Windows 12 may or may not require the new pluton chip as well. Currently only the Ryzen 6000 series have this chip as Intel has opted out of integrating it into their cpus. This means there are not a lot of pcs even out yet that would support a pluton required OS. Hopefully, Windows 12 only makes this chip optional.

I'm not continuing this fruitless back and forth about some anonymous senior dev.

Brad Sams makes sense. End of story from my point of view.

"End of story from my point of view." Good for you Doc, I would imagine Brad Sams Opinion does make sense due to the position he holds. I would not say fruitless Doc from your point or mine as you actually learned  some facts about the topic we are talking about.

Anonymous senior developer is 100% correct and also another fact Doc, I would never throw anyone under the Bus, That is the Old Soldier In Me.

Microsoft Superstitious Jafo Nooooo

More likely half way through Win 12 they will release Win 12 and a Half, and just jump to Win 14

Probably....though it always amused me how many parts of the US never had a 13th floor on their tall buildings.  I hadn't the heart to tell them they all were wrong anyway when they called their 'Ground floor' the 'First Floor'.

Fair enough they insist on doing their own thing with 'Aluminium' ...but going it alone on building-level convention is just getting silly...

Of course, there is the building in Japan where they've had to rename the floors because the building has sunk...

Ah...triskaidekaphobia. A worthy topic in and of itself.

There is no way they're going to do this.  The Windows UI is so much better than MacOS for actually getting work done.

Not really anything to get burnt up about.

I agree about work, yet MS is toying with a floating task bar/Mac-like dock...

Surely they will figure out by then that this idea belongs in the scrap heap and make something better. They still have a long time from now and the end of 2024.

The irony is that saying also came from the rumor mill.

Only time will tell what Windows 12 will truly look like
