Ramblings of an old Doc

I'm using Brave as my default, but am looking at Opera and Edge, and I'm wondering which extensions you guys use and if they slow you down.

I might also take a look at Vivaldi with its stacked tabs.

  • Adblock Plus
  • Simple Translate

I use the Dissenter Browser. It's a branch off of the Brave Browser. It's known as the Free Speech browser and is anti Big Tech. It's very fast and protects your privacy. I've been using it for months now and has me hooked.

P.S. -  I always use the FVD Speed Dial Extension. It gives any browser a speed dial start page and makes for fast browsing using shortcuts

Hadn't heard of it. Going to take a look. Thanks, Ace.

I like Firefox. I favor ad blockers, ghostery, https everywhere, duckduckgo privacy essentials, some stuff to save webpages and videos, and a some others (that I can't remember at the moment).

I remember the first time I used an ad blocker. The pages I visit loaded much faster, worked better, and were overall cleaner. I'm sure that my browsing is more secure it on. I know that there are many that rely on ads for revenue, but I find it hard to justify it these days. Though, I do chip in here and there when I can. I don't think the internet is free, so I try to pay my fair share using alternative means.

I'm still on Brave at home & use only LastPass, Scroll to Top Button and Tabs to the Front.

I've been using the new Edge at work for a couple of months now and am pretty impressed with it.  Still have lingering paranoia about Microsoft, but my new tin hat seems to work pretty well.  Use same extensions as above plus HTTPS Everywhere, uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger and PixelBlock.  Tried ClearURLs but it caused some issues with legitimate redirects.

As an aside, I uninstalled Firefox from all my rigs when they jumped on the censorship/deplatforming bandwagon.

Chrome with only the Rakuten extension.

I use Firefox with:

Adblock Plus - For obvious reasons. I exclude it on pages I particularly think deserve support - usually forums I'm part of.

Bypass Paywalls - Mainly because a lot of newspapers expect payment for frankly irrelevant stuff like sports, etc. Which can hardly be called Premium/Exclusive. I'd understand paywalling a lot more of it was dedicated to political analysis etc ie "serious stuff" but most of it's actually used to get payment for everyday fluff.

FB Purity - Facebook - shock news coming - shows me a lot of crap I don't need to know. FB Purity gets rid of it for me.

I'm toying with DuckDuckGo, I like it simply because of it's name and logo TBPH, same reason I use Firefox. But mostly I use the co.nz version of Google. Okay, so Google bombards me with ads/search choices based on my searches but SFW? I've never bought anything and 95% plus of my "Google searches" are nuetral meaningless bs - sports, music, lyrics, reviews of films, games etc etc. Not exactly rivetting stuff there. DuckDuckGo's current failing for me is I don't think it's search results are as good. But I'll stick with it because apparantly it's getting better.

DuckDuckGo has a nice browser for iOS & Android but I've not seen anything about an actual browser for Windows, as opposed to its search engine.

Chrome....no extensions...

You're right, Daiwa. DDG isn't a browser...it's a privacy oriented search engine like Google, but with no trackers on your search.

I'm looking at the extensions you all mentioned. 😊

I've heard of some, but others, not... thanks!

I would use Dissenter, but the company that makes it, Gab, is not very favourable in my opinion.
