Ramblings of an old Doc

MS has updated its KB3035583 in an effort to get folks to upgrade to W10. This is a patch which you might have ‘hidden’ in the past. So, their ‘updating’ that patch might well cause it to reappear. As far as I know, you can re-hide it with no problems, but according to sources, this patch has a very clear “decline” option, as opposed to earlier

This sort of brings up some other stuff: If you make a ‘last minute’ decision to upgrade to W10, you might not succeed, due to servers getting swamped. So, if you’re really considering it, make your decision very soon. The free upgrade expires on July 29th.

Regarding the “Anniversary Update”: Don’t expect it to happen necessarily on August second. It will be rolled out gradually. Which brings up a weird scenario for those folks: Two major OS upgrade/updates over a very short period of time…which will make MS’s servers especially “busy”.

“Plan Ahead” as the famous IBM sign says…MS could have planned this better by extending the free period by a week or three…and offering the “Anniversary Update” version to W10 late comers thus halving the data download time for them.” – gHacks

…a smart PR move.

Anyway…just so you know.

Why you might see KB3035583 again…

and again, and again, and again ............. I think I've seen this patch about 10 times over the past few months, and have hidden it every time, I can't wait for July 30th, and hope there are no more patches like this!

Agreed, will be glad to see the end of that patch peeking out of its hiding spot over and over.

I bought 2 copies of Win8 as a hedge & never used them, but I've decided that should it ever be truly advantageous or necessary to upgrade to Win10, it will be worth paying for.

Merely presenting as an option   : A good option for those who want to load it and have just been waiting is the iso download from here ("Download tool now" button), should still work:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

That will also allow a person to do a fresh intall, my personal preference anyway.  I'm not sure what exact version of Win10 that will download, it may be the same file that was out there in Nov or Dec.  There may also be a place to download a newer version, I don't know.  Of course an iso download would also need to be installed/activated during the free upgrade period to activate for free.

One would hope that once the free upgrade period is over all of those nagging promotional kb's coming down on the older Windows versions will stop.
