Ramblings of an old Doc

Folds like a book, lighter than the weight requiring an FAA license (less than 250 grams)…your own paparazzi and faithful puppy.

This is truly cool…even the holes for air are too small to allow adult fingers to be hurt.

It hovers and follows or leads…you can play a sort of frisbee game with it…a $600 frisbee, that is.

Anyway, it’s here: http://gethover.com/

Nice article at Engadget: http://www.engadget.com/2016/04/26/hover-camera-drone-zero-zero-robotics/

Have a great weekend!

Would be cool if you could control it. I do like it can follow you around.

You can in fact control it via an app on your mobile device - as I understand it, it can also be preset to hover, follow, etc.

So far there's been at least one 'plane-strike' involving a commercial aircraft [in the UK] with a 'drone'.

I'd prefer to see them all banned from public access.  There are too many idiots out there.

Drone-downing the plane was unfortunate.  We do need to get all these dangerous machines out of the hands of the many idiots out there.   Many of these idiots are driving cars.  Others are polishing their firearm collections at home.  Many homes have containers of ammonia next to containers of bleach nestled in the cleaning closet / under the sink, etc.  Dangerous, very dangerous, mixing ammonia and bleach creates a poisonous gas.  Lets get these dangerous chemicals out of the hands of those idiots.  Tweeks and drunks, alcohol and perception altering substances are dangerous, too.  "I'd prefer to see them all banned from public access.  There are too many idiots out there."

Anything else we need to ban from the public and reserve for the sole use of those public servants who already have the legal right to use deadly force on the public (police, military, militarized police).  Oh, don't forget criminals - they will use any and all banned substances and machines because they (sometimes) ignore the law.  Perhaps we should ban criminals?

Don't think this one attains those altitudes, Jafo. But an idiot flying one in flight paths or near airports should (as a matter of course) have their arse handed to them.

"unfortunate" is a quaint description.

The strike wasn't 'fatal' .... but imagine a Jumbo with 450 people on take-off at rotation and an engine flames out from such a strike.

Getting into a plane is already a leap of faith without adding the entertainment of Russian Roulette...

Birds are a far bigger aviation problem, not that we should add to it with artificial birds.

I disagree, while there are some fools utilizing drones currently, the best course of action would be a barrier to entry, requiring drone operators to acquire a licence for operating a drone in certain urban areas. But removing them all-together would not only be detrimental to several groups which use drones for a good cause, but it would also be exceptionally hard to pass such a law, considering how much backlash it would achieve.

Since this is about drones and the potential of hurting harming others, there are now drones developed that will catch drones flying in unauthorized areas...

Anyway back to topic the Drone presented here is quite neat for the drone entry level, if however someone wants to shot stable video there is no way around a Professional one. While you could reach the same smooth video by post processing you will have to invest quite a bit into Software.
Maverick offers a Drone that is portable and super stable / reliable but comes with double the price.
Another downside is that the rotors are not contained in a manner that would prevent injuries when flown by the above mentioned "Idiots".

In Germany you will have to have insurance for your drone also you need a certificate before you are able to legally lift off with drones that reach a certain altitude and speed. Even then you are bound to rules, like keeping distance to peoples homes, sportsfields and so on...
Quite an expansive Hobby.
