Ramblings of an old Doc

Bye bye unlimited storage…MS says some users were abusing that. Maybe, maybe not. Define “some”.

I figure it’s really about money…hey, that’s what corporations do. Especially those with crappy smartphones.

So, MS storage had been changed from 15 GB (remember when you’d get 500 mb for each friend you brought in?) to 5 GB free and 15 GB of Camera roll bonus.

MS has recanted after a good deal of disappointment was vented, and MS is letting OneDrive legacy users to keep 15 GB storage.

Here’s MS’s “Limited Time Offer”:

  • Office 365 Home, Personal, and University subscriptions will continue to include 1 TB of storage. Those who received additional storage a part of unlimited offer will keep it for at least 12months.

  • “For customers of our free service who have over 5 GB of content and who are directly impacted by the storage change, we will offer one free year of Office 365 Personal, which includes 1 TB of storage.”  These customers will receive an email with redemption information early next year

  • A new offer to OneDrive loyal advocates and fans where Microsoft is letting the users keep existing 15 GB of free storage even when the changes happen next year where the free storage will be reduced to 5 GB. If one also has 15 GB camera roll bonus, one can keep that too. For this, one has to sign up to keep the storage at the link given here. This is limited period offer and must be redeemed by January 31, 2016.

This was announced as an answer to a question in OneDrive UserVoice Forum…not yet in its official OneDrive Blog.

"So if you want to keep your 15 GB of free storage and the 15 GB free camera roll bonus, use this link and keep your present free storage. And remember it should be redeemed by January 31, 2016." - TWC
