So...MS has announced its RTM for W10: July 29th.

What will be missing from Windows 10:

RTM = release to manufacturing
I was under the impression that it was available for the public from that date.
I am hoping it is going to be worth it. I believe MS knows they can botch yet another release of windows - 8 and 8.1 were pretty horrid experiences for many people.
The bits "missing" from Windows 10 don't really amount to much.
Well, I plan on keeping my Windows 7 and 8.1, and right now I have Windows 10 Preview on a third drive (triple boot). I wonder if I will be able to upgrade the preview version to RTM? Anybody know?
"The specifications show that computers with USB floppy drives will need new drivers to be installed from Windows Update once Windows 10 is installed. Customers will also need to install a new solution for DVD playback, as Windows 10 will not natively support watching DVDs on desktops and laptops. " ... This taken from Borgs' link.
What is a USB floppy drive? And about DVD playback... so everything one has on a DVD they will not be able to see anymore, using Windows10? I really love my windows7.... everything works, like it did in xp.
The only thing that bothers me is the lack of DVD playback. Sure it's easy to download a freeware player, but the average user won't bother. Instead they'll sign up for a streaming service conveniently offered via the Windows 10 environment..which MS will get a piece of. It's removal was intended as a way to extract more money from the consumer.
And a little off topic. If MS moves Windows to a subscription model, I will finally make the move to Linux.
I won't be bothered by the 'bits' that have so-say been removed from Win 10. They were not present in Win 8/8.1 anyway, and I've managed without them. I have not played solitaire or any MS games on my PC for 2 - 3 years, so that's of no consequence to me, either.
As for DVD/disc support, I have several options available to me there [Cyberlink/Nero], and have had since before Vista/Win 7, so again, it's no skin off my nose. Now it may annoy some, especially basic users who have no idea where to look, but given discs are now becoming a thing of the past, what with just about everything available as a download nowadays, I think it's MS's attempt to streamline the OS and speed things up some.... as in the fewer Windows services to load at startup the better.
In any event, I shall maintain optical drives in all my machines. I have dozens of discs with games and programs, not to mention hard copy backups of skins since losing my entire library to a HDD failure.
Anyway, Windows 10.... bring it on.
So the windows 10 update is supposed to be rolled out through the current windows update system (or something very similar to that). I'm intrigued about that. If they can truly pull it off it'll probably be one of the most impressive software releases of all time. I've decided to let it "run its course" on my system just to see if they can pull it off.
what will happen if i upgrade win 7 to win 10 to my Deskscapes 3 that i have registered, will i have to get Deskscapes for windows 10.or will it work on windows 10.please reply asap.thank you.
A bit OT, but still relevant. Don't expect them to come out with that until after enough are on board.
They'll use the drug pusher model: Free fixes until hooked, then the 'subscription model'.
exited, cant wait
Currently DeskScapes 3 isn't supported on current OS's, so it won't be supported on Win10.
Been with the insider program for some time now, and personally I think development is going backwards.
I won't be pressing that little windows icon on the 29th. I am going to play safe and see what happens.
Agreed. I reserved my copies, but won't be installing for at the very least a month (probably a few months.) There are sure to be hotfixes rolling in quickly after the big rollout.
I have copies of Ubuntu, and Mint on the stand by.... Just in case.
