Ramblings of an old Doc

This launcher is a suite with 150 outstanding (and portable) utilities.

It has recovery tools, password recovery tools, disk health tools, tools to diagnose unstable/crashing systems. There’s more:

  • NirLauncher can be used from USB flash drive without need of any installation.
  • NirLauncher and all the utilities in the package are completely freeware, without any Spyware/Adware/Malware. This package doesn't contain any 3-party software, toolbars, Web browser plugins, or other unwanted surprises. It will not install any software on your system and it will not change your Web browser homepage or other settings on your system.
  • NirLauncher package includes variety of tools that you may need for your daily computer use, including utilities to recover lost passwords, to monitor your network, to view and extract cookies, cache, and other information stored by your Web browser, to search files in your system, and more...
  • For every utility in the package, you can easily run it, view the help file, or jump to the Web page of the utility.
  • When using it from USB flash drive, the configuration of every utility is saved into .cfg file on the flash drive.
  • On x64 systems, NirLauncher automatically run the x64 version of the utility, when there is a separated x64 version.
  • NirLauncher also allows to add more software packages in additional to the main NirSoft package.
  • NirLauncher allows you generate plugin files for BartPE (Launcher -> Generate BartPE Plugin Files), so you can easily use the utilities of NirSoft from a bootable live windows CD.

Just so you know: Because there are password recovery tools here which could be used for nefarious purposes, your AV software might pop up warnings (read more here: http://blog.nirsoft.net/2009/05/17/antivirus-companies-cause-a-big-headache-to-small-developers/). Chrome wouldn’t allow me to dl it, so I used IE and created rules for the contents in BitDefender. However: NirSoft is safe. The software is safe. If you’re unsure how to use it, there’s a help file and the NirSoft website has explanations.

The launcher is tabbed, so you can quickly get to the tools you need. Don’t think twice. Get it today. Even better? It’ll allow you to add more packages.

Thanks to Razvan Serea at Neowin for alerting me!

Get it here: NirLauncher 1.19.7

Hmmmm, I clicked the link to download the file Doc and Chrome gave me a message that the file is malicious and unsafe, so it would not allow the download. Never had that happen anywhere before. Odd.

So I go download the file in IE, and during unpack Microsoft Security Essentials goes nuts saying it's cleaning files as they extract, multiple times. Think I better skip this one.

Tom, the files are all safe. MSE (and other antivirals) go nuts over the password recovery tools, as I explained in the OP.

While such tools can be used unscrupulously by some, YOUR use is not in question. I created the rules allowing them since anyone I helped would be advised by me to change his/her passwords after the recovery of that person's system.

Hope this clears the matter up.

I also recommend reading the blog post linked in the OP.

Proggies that 'hack' for system passwords etc exhibit characteristics that will set off alarms with your AV proggies....I already have several.  They're false-positives but safe.

You NEED to politely request your AV to butt-out whilst fiddling with them...unpacking, etc ...
