OK. This was a new one on me. LifeHacker really surprised the heck out of me!
F’rinstance, who knew there’s a ‘Quesarito’? There’s tons of stuff pertaining to the ‘secret menus’ of 12 food chains here: http://hackthemenu.com/
F’rinstance, here’s Chipotle’s: http://hackthemenu.com/chipotle/secret-menu/ and
“Most importantly, we created detailed instructions on how to order each secret menu item at Chipotle. Yes, just in case you are feeling a little bit shy or bewildered at ordering off the secret menu, we have laid out the exact steps that have been tried and tested with actual employees at Chipotle to successfully order your secret item.” – #HackTheMenu
So, how does this work? Check the menu at the link just above. Decide on an item. Click it – say, Quesarito: The Holy Grail of the Secret Menu. The popularity of the monstrous Quesarito is due to the fact that it is a burrito in which the "shell" of the burrito is actually a Cheese Quesadilla.
Don’t forget to ask the price. It’s usually $6.65 (same as a Burrito…but OH! So much more!).
How about a “Poor Man’s Big Mac”? Here’s how:
“To try a Poor Man's Big Mac, order a McDouble, but omit the pickles and ketchup. Instead, ask for special sauce, onion, and lettuce. You now have a mini Big Mac. The flavor of a Big Mac is all there at the price of a McDouble. And an added bonus is that you can order 3 or 4 Poor Man's Big Macs for the price of one Big Mac. Pretty nifty, huh?” – LifeHacker
Anyway…your ‘routine blah’ lunch could get punched up a notch without any effort. Don’t rely on the worker knowing the ‘secret menu’. Just give him/her the instructions on how to prep your fave twist.
While some of these seem like...'oh, is that all?' item mods, when you look at the savings a couple of months down the line, think about how those simple 'twists' and 'hacks' got you there!
Have fun!
