Ramblings of an old Doc

Lifehacker puts out good stuff quite often.

Folks buy and sell their devices often enough that it’s worth noting three excellent articles about this topic.

If you have additional suggestions, please add them!

The first is…well the titled source: http://lifehacker.com/the-apps-you-need-to-deauthenticate-before-selling-your-1629748753

The second is your phone: http://lifehacker.com/5808280/what-should-i-do-with-my-phone-before-i-sell-it

The third and arguably the most important is your computer: http://lifehacker.com/5966580/what-should-i-do-to-my-computer-before-i-sell-it

Anyway…these are some good things to at least bookmark so you’ll have them when the time comes.

I recall reading somewhere [and I don't have the inclination to go looking for it again, too tired] about printers/3-in-Ones having memory chips that contain data which could be recovered by anyone technically able, so it'd be wise to look into that if one is selling or handing down a printer or a 3-in-One.

That's correct, Cap'n. I believe I published on that, but there was a CBS Special on the subject well before me.

In general, consumer 3-in-ones don't have hard drives, so just turning them off should be enough to clear temporary memory.

However, I do recommend actually reading the manual as to whether the printer has a hard drive. If it does, there should be instructions on how to clear it before sale. If that isn't apparent, tech support for the product should be contacted.

Yes...anything that can fax will likely record a TX log, and dialing memory for one-touch numbers, etc...
