Regedit sucks…the drilling down and even the search…hit or miss.
Registrar (http://www.resplendence.com/registrar) has many features which truly are excellent instead of regedit. The paid edition has features that keep track of changes an d allows multi-level undo’s as well as single changes. Not the free version. For a full list of differences check here: http://www.resplendence.com/registrar_compchart
For the average person who wants to make one time edits, it’s more than adequate…even without the rich features in the Pro version. The Pro version costs $55.
The biggest minuses of the home (free version) are:
- Cannot be used in a commercial environment.
- No remote Registry editing.
- Search is limited in several ways, you cannot use reg ex searches for instance.
- It won't keep track of changes.
- Registry Compare, File Reference and CLSID Utility are not available.
- No support for Registry file edits
- gHacks
So…it’s a good program, even with the limits of the free (home) version…
Remember:
This isn’t for the novice. If you don’t fully understand what you’re doing, leave the registry the hell alone! Ask a pro to do what you want done, and ask him to backup your registry before he does anything to it.
As always, before installing ANYTHING on your computer:
1. Do your own research about the software.
2. Determine your need.
3. Create a restore point in case anything goes wrong during the installation.
4. If you haven’t done a backup within the past week, do one. It’s painless and saves quite a bit of regret.
5. Always choose "Custom" or "Advanced" installation if offered. That will allow you to view whether the software comes in a wrapper with toolbars, home page and search engine switchers or other software/Adware you might not want.
