Ramblings of an old Doc

Because Google knows best. One size fits all.

Also because Google is concerned with possibly malicious extensions.

When you open Chrome, you might see this:

As usual, an article in gHacks will explain to you what to do to remedy this. There are a few things you can do, however there might be cases where the solution might not work, unfortunately.

the_Monk, The only thing I like about FF is its customizability, but it has a momentum all its own and a rather devoted following, so I don't see the hounds catching the fox any time soon.

Yup, got it in a nutshell... FF ain't going anywhere any time soon.  But as always, whether it be an OS war or a browser war, there'll always be somebody who has to say 'my dick is bigger/better than your dick'.  And again, it's all a matter of personal preference... what works best for you/the individual.

I don't give a flying fech if somebody wants to use Chrome or Maxthon, whatever, my choice is Firefox because it is customisable and has the extensions I like to use. As for being a memory hog, I don't notice with 32gb of RAM, and it's no slower than IE 11 or other popular browsers, at least not in my experience... and yes, I have tried several browsers in my search for the best, but I always return to Firefox because it is familiar and, to date, the best browser for me.

As to Chrome's 'supposed' speed, it derives that by opening new CPU threads each time you open a new tab or begin a new task, and for mine, I'd rather sacrifice a fraction of my 32gb of RAM than have umpteen CPU threads open at the one time.  While it may not affect those who do not browse multiple sites and/or perform multiple tasks - downloading, streaming music and/or video - those who do all of the above are going to notice a perfomance hit while multi-tasking... eg, converting video or music. rendering various layers in PS or PSP, etc, etc, etc... and that's not for me.

...

In any case, as Phoon already pointed out.  Thanks to Doc (as always) for drawing attention to this and I do absolutely agree (while I do not actually use Chrome) this decision by Google should be seen as a step in a good direction.

The Information Super-Highway is littered with the wrecks of discarded browsers....some are just coughing and spluttering...and willed by their drivers to 'keep going'....others are in a handbasket....

[having fun with a metaphor]

Sensible users tend to 'rely' on 2....where the 'second' helps with sites that have issues with the first....

Did someone actually say anything of the sort? I'm beginning to think you are having discourse with imaginary posts starkers......

While the topic may have veered a tad off-topic with posts in support of this or that browser I must have missed it if the thread (or any individual posts for that matter) actually degenerated into a member-measuring contest.

Hey, Monk, I was just poking a bit of fun cos threads like this often devolve into something like that... so no need to get yer knickers in a twist, orright?

Ya gotta know not to take everything I say too seriously... I'm a larrikin at heart.

True [ref Jafo].  4 installed here.

Not that I'm 'sensible', mind you.

You said it!  Not that I'm agreeing or anything... I'm just not one to argue with anyone who seems to know what they're talking about.

In fact, I'm not one to argue with anyone who doesn't seem to know what they're talking about.... I worry they might show me up.
