Ramblings of an old Doc

There’s an update available to Ps CS6, CC and Bridge (at least it was for mine). There’s new support for Canon EOS 1200D, Casio EX-100, DJI Phantom, Fujifilm X-T1, Hasselblad H5D-50c and HV, Nikon D3300 and D4S, Olympus OM-D E-M10, Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS40, Phase One IQ250, Samsung NX30 and Sony's Alpha a5000 and Alpha a6000 (ILCE-6000).

The Oil Paint filter was based on a large code package from Pixel Bender which is outdated, and to be honest, I didn’t see much use for that filter although perhaps some photographers did as part of commercial packages for clients. Kuler (gorgeous color palettes) isn’t going to be around in its current format. There are rumors that it’ll become available for HTML5 but no due date, so if you love it, download as many as are feasible now.

Minibridge is going to die as well, and that’s a shame. I liked Minibridge a good deal as I wouldn’t have to open other windows to work with other images simultaneously.

Camera RAW got a very useful update, however. Now (see screen shot) adjustments can be made with a wider variety of tools like cropping, straightening, filters like the radial filter and more such as lens adjustments, transforming and vignetting (with more controls). You can see these new tools and their location across the top of the screen shot. At the bottom of the upper screen shot (red oval), is the control for view (before and after there are several views).

In this (below) screen shot you can see the controls on the top bar (red oval) the view selector (blue oval) and the transform and perspective tools (light green oval - MAJOR wow) and the vignette I put on the picture (exaggerated for view):

I haven’t discovered all the changes just yet, but Camera RAW is becoming more like Lightroom ‘lite’. Unlike Lr though, the changes made are not ‘instructions’ (innately nondestructive), they are raster oriented, and the only way to become ‘nondestructive’ is not to save changes to the original, or to use it as a filter on a smart object (which would be different from the original, anyway and be saved as a psb file).

Julianne Kost has written an article about Camera RAW (RC) which can give you more expert info here.

Anyway, this is just to keep you updated as to the expected changes and a peek at the brand spankin’ new Camera RAW 8.4 which is just super.

Speaking of Photoshop, I found a couple of interesting iOS apps that I had to have just to check out.

If you have an iPad, you may want to give these a look. I read that they may be compatible with CS6 also.
