Ramblings of an old Doc

I hope everyone has updated to the free 2.0 version since Leo the Lion’s post.

The Licensed version seems to have a bug. Martin Brinkmann has posted on error code 20026. Apparently, the anti-rootkit component isn’t working. I’m not sure if this is true for the free version as well.

“Error: Malwarebytes was unable to load the Anti-Rootkit Driver. Error code: 20026

Do you want to continue the scan without anti-rootkit support?”

then, before he could answer he received:

Scanner Failed with Error Code 20026” – gHacks

This also appears in their Forums.

So, why is this happening? It’s simple: The software doesn’t support encrypted volumes, except for TrueCrypt.

Short of using TrueCrypt, the only work around is to turn off the anti-rootkit module.

Here’s how (per gHacks):

  1. Open the program on your system and bring the window of it to the front.
  2. Click on Settings > Detection and Protection.
  3. Disable "Scan for rootkits". – per gHacks

The onmly other recommendation is to use other root-kit scanners in the meantime (TDSKiller, Avast’s aswMBR or Gmer)

The ball’s in Malwarebytes’ court…

I'm running the trial version of 2.0 and opening it up I found the 'scan for rootkits' unchecked. Guess that's why I haven't seen this error.

I'm using the premium version. I've just done a full scan with anti rootkit enabled and report no problems. I suspect this is an issue which won't affect most people.

It all depends on whether you have encrypted drives (for security)...this was more of a "If this is happening to you, here's what to do...".

Happy it appears to be not common.
