Ramblings of an old Doc

Neowin is an excellent site for many different reasons. It often summarizes news for me and gives me the site for the OP. Also, the software reviews (while a bit shallow at times) give me ideas for stuff to look at for you guys.

As you might also know, Brad helped Neowin get on it’s feet.

Well it’s been down for 24+ hours – not just down, but not responding at all, and I didn’t know what to make of it.

Martin Brinkmann at gHAcks (an incredible source for great reviews, news, etc.) has explained it.

“It appears as if the domain has been pulled, expired or hacked…or perhaps on its way to a new server.

“DNS servers
ns1.badwhoisshutdown.com [69.25.27.170]
ns2.badwhoisshutdown.com [69.25.27.173]
Query for DNS records for neowin.net failed: Timed out”

- from gHacks.net

So…the nameservers changed and that inaccuracy has led to inaccurate Whois information which was probably reported.” – gHacks

It’s been fixed, and the the explanation can be viewed here: http://neow.in/forum/topic/1198943-site-outages/page-2

Note the neow.in address.

So all’s well that ends well. Neowin should be back up within 24 hours.

All webmasters among you folks out there, gHAcks had more to add:

“you need to make sure that all Whois related information, as well as account related information, are accurate. You may run into the same domain pulling troubles as Neowin if you do not. It is especially important that all email addresses and phone numbers connected to accounts are accurate, as this seems to be the core reason why domains may get pulled for inaccurate information.”
