Ramblings of an old Doc

Hey folks. Cold weather, snow, ice, freezing rain…now this.

A couple of days ago, Yahoo discovered there had been a concerted effort to hack it through passwords obtained from a third party database…

Just to let you all know. I’ve changed mine, and hope you’re changing yours before your account becomes unavailable and all your friends end up with malware because they opened a disguised link/file.

Yahoo said it reset the passwords of the affected accounts. Just in case, it wouldn’t hurt to change your password, and use the second verification they’ve put in place.

I’ll follow this up with good info about how to identify a phishing email.

Sorry to add to the cold, etc. but I figured you’d want to know.

Have a better weekend.

I only use Yahoo's search engine so I'm lucky enough not to need a password.  However, I do hope the leak is plugged ASAP so people are not too inconvenienced

I also hope that penalties for cyber crime are effectively toughened up and offenders get their gonads ripped out as well as getting very long prison sentences.

Hopefully that'll put an end to the endless stream of spam from random Ya-fucking-hoo email accounts!
I've had to block '@yahoo.com' to stop it flooding my inbox.

Brilliant security, dumbfucks.

I quit yahoo mail and any other yahoo acounts yonks ago for that very reason... spam coming out of the woodwork faster than I could delete or block it.  Orright, it wasn't quite that bad, but one morning I went to check my yahoo email account and there were over 600 spam entries.  Those accumulated in less than 48 hours, which is when I decided to nix my yahoo accounts.

didn't you hear about the one where british telecomn (biggest isp in uk) used to use yahoo as their mail service (beats me why) .. and had a spate of account hijacked to spew spam (last year)....

don't think they ever came clean as to why or how it happened.
