Everyone should have this one, probably.
It supports all Windows OSs from XP on.
It prevents the installation of toolbars, Java, home page and search engine switchers, etc.
It isn’t perfect. Not 100% of the time. So, you’ll have to pay attention.
It will bring you to the “custom installation”, but pay attention in case it doesn’t. I’d also bet that the sites which “wrap” or “bundle” software with other stuff are at work trying to figure out how to circumvent it.
Be careful how you configure it. Also, if you get an “accept” or “decline” screen, you’ll have to decide as Unchecky won’t decide for you.
So what does Unchecky do for you?
- It will warn you when program installers include unwanted offers.
- It will pick the “custom” installation option and uncheck the boxes automatically.
Sites to be wary of: Download.com . Click on the “Direct download” link or you’ll get “wrapped”. The direct download link will bypass the c|net installer. Softonic, Soft32, Tucows and Brothersoft – give you a web installer program you need to download from their site. It comes bundled with all sorts of crap, so make sure you choose “custom install” and uncheck – if Unchecky doesn’t do that for you.
Sites without wrappers? Softpedia, File Hippo, Freeware Files and Major Geeks (but pay attention at these sites too - you never know when it’ll change).
