Ramblings of an old Doc

MS removed Gadgets from W8 because of security concerns, supposedly. I suspect it was to promote the tiled apps thing more, though…but I could be wrong.

If you love your gadgets, now there’s a way to get them back…and it’s free.

Gadgets Revived” adds “Gadgets” to the desktop right click context menu.

It has full control panel integration with working links in the “Appearance and personalization” category.

It also has full integration with Windows Search when “gadgets” is typed in. I don’t know for sure but strongly suspect that it will work with Start8 since it works with Classic Shell and StartIsBack. Apparently you can even integrate it with the online gadget gallery.

Desktop Gadgets apparently has a Gallery of more than 900 Gadgets accessible from its homepage, but to avail yourself of them, you’ll have to download the sidebar which is there on the homepage.

The nice part of this is that there might be a bit of rebirth for gadgets which sort of died when MS/Yahoo killed them.

Let me know if it works with Start8, OK?

I get this message when I try to install it! Don`t know what this should be!

I'd ask the folks at the website....I really don't have W8.1, and don't use gadgets...so I left a question about installations which don't go 'as planned' and who to contact about it on the Windows Club link above.

The question appears under Doc. Please follow up there since I see no possibility on the app's website for support questions.

I had to install the 8GadgetPack than uninstall it! Now I could install gadgets revived! It works fine with windows 8.1 and also with Start8!

Thanks alot DrJBHL for your tip! Have a good week!Ralph

as what all these gadgets for Windows 8 "applications" do is installing patched files from older operating systems, some conflicts among them should be expected.

Is this better than 8Gadget Pack?

Well, I gather from the OP that it hasn't been tried or used by the poster. Give it a look and let us know, Jim.

I'm happy with 8GadgetPack. YMMV.
