Ramblings of an old Doc

It’s basically a secure browser designed to make internet purchasing and bill paying safer.

“It automatically opens all your e-banking and e-shopping pages in a separate iron-clad, secure browser. It make transactions and other critical operations on the Internet more secure by running them in a browser that is separated from the rest of the environment with its self-protect mechanism that offers protection against key logger attempts, packet sniffing, and lot of other threats associated with the sensitive activities such as online banking or online shopping.” – BitDefender

BitDefender’s “Internet Security” suite already had it integrated. As a ‘stand alone’ in beta it’s currently free. It’ll probably have a ‘free’ and ‘paid’ version from December when it’s slated to come out of beta.

It’s of benefit especially in public areas (airports, hot spots).

An additional feature worthy of mention is:

‘Anti-theft’ which offers the ability to locate and lock your laptop or PC in case of loss or theft. It also has the ability to wipe data to make sure thief can’t access it. – ibid

Other features:

  1. It monitors sensitive online transactions continuously without any breaks thereby preventing any kind of hacking attacks. It is especially safe against phishing attacks. Thus the user can continue with his online business, shopping, etc. without fear.
  2. It provides security to your laptop while connecting to an unsecured Wi-Fi. This is especially useful to people who ravel a lot or have a business which requires mobility.
  3. Unlike other anti-phishing software’s, Bitdefender Safepay does not interfere with your anti-virus software. Thus they work smoothly side by side.
  4. The software assesses the security of your PC from time to time and informs about all possible threats.
  5. The application uses cloud technology for protection.

The system Requirements for Bitdefender Safepay are as follows:

  • Operation System: Windows XP SP3 or higher. It is incompatible with Windows RT.
  • CPU: More than 800 GHz. However, it works really slow with processing units below 2 GHz. Intel Core 2 Duo or higher is recommended in the case.
  • Hard Disk Space: 1 GB or higher. However, it is better to keep 2 GB plus space free on your hard disk memory in case you are using the 64 bit version.

Bugs:

  • Safepay doesn`t work with any other security solution from Bitdefender.

I believe they mean that it won’t “self integrate” into another BitDefender security app, and it has to be run as a “stand alone”, individually by double clicking on the desktop icon.

So - I'd wager a bit of this post is off topic (still about bitdefender though).  I'm saying the following to folks that are thinking of picking up bitdefender or BD software.  I picked up a 1 year sub for bitdefender's AV, etc, setup.  I dropped them after 2 months.  I think they have a reasonably secure setup, but their CS is completely abysmal and I dislike them as a company.  I did a reinstall of my OS after 1 month with the company.  Wiped my HD and didn't have a copy of the serial for bitdefender.  Completely my fault for not having a copy of that email.  I contact CS and tell them my situation and ask them to provide me with the key so I can associate it with their software.  After 1 month, not a single reply from a human being.  While I was using a fully paid for subscription (prior to my os reinstall), I wanted to disable some annoying popups for "gaming mode."  Not possible without making sacrifices in security (again - to simply disable a pop up that happens every single time I view something on youtube).  They don't have a decent CS setup.  Took over a week to get any response from their CS re: any info on that pop up.

So - my overall take - make sure you keep a print out or back up of any serials you purchase from them.  And hope that whatever software they provide is providing exactly what you want.  I choose to use them based on multiple reviews but really had a bad experience.  That said - I'm actually for trying out the safepay software if folks have any concerns about their online transactions.  I think they have some brilliant engineers working for them.  Just the over company makes me a bit leery.  Sorry if this is all threadcrap - just getting over my 1 year sub loss due to no one contacting me after weeks.

Doc - I always enjoy your posts.  Don't mean to be really negative here.  The software you linked to is likely great - just want to draw some attention to folks here that are considering putting money into the company based on my SINGULAR experiences here.  Take my commentary with a grain of salt.   Thanks!

pacov...

What can I say except that my experience with their Support has been the complete opposite...unhappy that you experienced that.

That equally applies to ALL ONLINE PRODUCT PURCHASES and is not particular/unique to one software company.

I used BD software for years....actually, incidentally....after actually DUMPING 10 months of subscription to Norton....after the latter hosed my system REQUIRING a Windows reinstall.

I had exactly zero issues with BD until the release [and my adoption] of Windows 7.  BD was a little too slow to provide compatibility for 7 64bit .... so since then it has been Kaspersky all the way....

No issues with BD on Win7 64b here.  Biz version, though, if that makes a diff.  Had Kaspersky for a year & it was just fine as well.

SafePay is included in the biz version but haven't used it yet.  Might now.
