They listened! Now you should get BitDefender AV Free.

Will wonders never cease? I hope you remember my post at the end of last year regarding BitDefender AV Free. If you don’t, it’s here:

Following the post, problems cropped up: No “whitelisting”, no “quarantining”, etc.

You might be happy to learn, as I was, that sometimes companies listen. I ‘m sure I wasn’t the only one to write to them concerning the defects you all found. I supplied them with the url of the thread, and they might have even taken a look.

Well, Alin Vlad who is the Gobal Social Media Coordinator at BitDefender posted a comment on The Windows Club thread dealing with BDAV Free here:

What's common is moms who likes to install those $#!ing system tray and browser toolbar spyware/adware programs. :/ So ... I would argue that the 'sense' that 'common' folk have is not the best anti-virus.

Don't blame "moms" for those sneaky piles of dog crap that fly-by-night software hacks try to slip in with their installers so they can make a few advertising dollars for their "free" application!

I'm going to give it a try on my XP box.

With its awesome lack of performance and power, if the AV runs well on it, it will run on anything.

Common sense unfortunately has nothing to do with it, Skillet98. You might be completely prudent in your habits, but that will not protect you from "drive bys", and infected files from trusted sources (just to mention a couple of things).

Tried to install it on my Windows 7 that already had MSE installed. Got to a point when you click to either force install it (not recommended) or remove your existing AV program and install, at which time I click that button and it does nothing at all. Reboot and the same dialog comes up, so finally I clicked the forced install and closed it because I did not want to mess my system up. Very poorly designed installer.
