I’m posting this after seeing it on ZDNet since there might be some looking for the Surface Pro. I’d advise calling the store or checking online before running out to buy it. Also, it might be better to call the actual store as the online info might not be accurate or updated as often as you might like.

Turns out that MS didn’t take pre-orders on the Surface Pro 64 and 128 GB models as they did for the Surface RT. What’s a customer to assume? That there’ll be plenty available, right? Wrong.

Many customers planned to visit on day one (despite Nemo) MS Stores, Best Buys, Staples and Future Shops here and in Canada and many went, only to find either very few or none available. Best Buy isn’t allowing pre-orders for the 128 GB model.

It’s unclear whether the stores put in very low orders, or whether MS simply couldn’t supply them with requested quantities. All MS is saying is:

“Customer response to the launch of Surface Pro has been amazing. We’re working with our retail partners who are currently out of stock of the 128GB Surface Pro to replenish supplies as quickly as possible. Which spins and avoids the problem. A smarter move (if it’s a supply end problem) would be a discount. Just my opinion, though.

Originally MS scheduled the launch for 1/13, but it was pushed back to 2/13. No explanation for that was given, but this leads one to suspect a manufacturing/supply end problem.
