Ramblings of an old Doc

Truly unfortunate… this is an excellent site. It puts out two products: Free and paid subscriptions. The paid subscription is top drawer as the subscription fee pays top experts for excellent articles. The free part of the site is very good.

Well, on 9/19/12 the site was hacked by ‘brute forcing’ an admin account. The following data might have been stolen:

“subscriber name, e-mail address, reader number, ZIP code (if applicable), geographic region, and hashed password — all the entries on your profile page.” – Windows Secrets

After the hack, subscribers started getting spam emails from that site… so, email addresses (at least) were stolen.

So, folks… if you have a paid subscription (or a free one), go and change your password on the site. Also, if your password isn’t unique to that site (an unsafe practice), go change them all… and make them unique this time.

Here we go again. I'm off to change mine. Apparently makeuseof uses your yahoo ID, which is your email. Have to change your email address. Boogers.
