Ramblings of an old Doc

Really fast and thorough defragging can speed up your HDD. Both Iobit’s SmartDefrag2 (with skinnable – its own skins) and Auslogic’s Disk Defrag have both been updated.

I have no preference… both look ok, although SmartDefrag2 might have the edge there as it has a dark (charcoal gray) and light interface.

Auslogic’s Disk Defrag:

Features:

  • Defrag and optimize
  • Free space consolidation
  • System files smart placement
  • Keeping the MFT reserved zone clear
  • Single file or folder defragmentation
  • List of fragmented files
  • Auto-defrag mode
  • Scheduled defragmentation
  • Customizing disk defrag
  • Multiple languages

What's new in version 3.4.0.0:

  • improved stability
  • improved defragmentation speed
  • fixed all known bugs

Iobit’s SmartDefrag 2.3.0.1126:

Features (per Iobit):

  • Extremely easy to use
  • Exceptionally Efficient Defragmentation
  • Optimizes Disk Performance
  • Always-on to Work Automatically
  • Data Safe and Reliability Guaranteed
Besides, unlike other "Automated" Defragmenters, Smart Defrag does NOT constantly perform analysis and defrag, which does damage your hard drive and shorten its life. Smart Defrag has a "Safe Intelligence" technology that can assure the health of your disk by deciding When and How to execute defragmentation.
  • Free Defragmenter
Limitations: Installs the Iobit\Yahoo toolbar which you can opt out of as well as a few other offers including other Iobit products. These additional offer are off by default.

I've been using SmartDefrag for a few years now, great software.

How does it compare to other software like Defraggler?

ice-

Take a look here... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_defragmentation_software

Usually I don't use Wikipedia as a reference, but this one looks fair.

In truth, ask 10 people and you'll get 7-8 different preferences... all personal.

I have been using Auslogics Defrag for quite awhile...I love it!  Runs fast, doesn't hog systems resources.

To find again

I use Auslogics Disk Defrag and wouldn't want to switch to any other. It is faster than anything I've tried before, and I like my defrags to be fast. But it is also thorough and does a good job optimizing the drives/defragging free space. I like the progress graphics, the reports, the fact that you can just defrag one folder or file if you need to. And it also checks the drive for errors and repairs them (I like to run the error check occasionally just to make sure I don't have any errors). It's definitely more fun to use than Windows Defrag.
