Ramblings of an old Doc

I feel obliged to Martin Brinkmann at gHacks.net for bringing this to our attention since so many of us use Adobe Shockwave Player and are updating it from time to time.

In his article today, Mr. Brinkmann alerted me (and now us) to the fact that Adobe is bundling Norton Security Scan with its software. He also alerts us that:

“The popular download portal Download.com for instance has also started to bundle adware with the majority of downloads they provide site users with.”

I’m sure you all eschew this practice as do I. No one I know wants the Ask or Babylon toolbars.

You’ll have to “opt out” near the end of the installation:

The false positive rate of ‘detection’ has already been discussed in my articles, and this program represents (essentially) scareware.

At any rate, beware this practice and knowing it’s out there is the first step in preventing this from happening to you.
