Ramblings of an old Doc

Not talking about a virtual OS isolating app here. This is a “could be big” fun app.

“Aurasma is a free app that lets you discover, create and share amazing virtual content, integrated into the real world.” - http://www.aurasma.com/

Available for smartphones, the app recognizes images, symbols and objects in the real world and understands them. It can then deliver relevant content in real time, including videos, animations, audio or webpages. It augments and merges them with the reality seen through the smartphone’s camera without barcodes or tags. Seamlessly!

You download and open the app and start creating “Auras” (Augmented Reality Actions) by taking an objet (whatever you’d like) and taking a pic of it. Say a location. Then a vid of kids skateboarding. The app will overlay one on the other.

Check out the “How it works” here: http://www.aurasma.com/how-does-it-work where creating your own is also explained.

You can see how it works by downloading the app, and choosing one of the “super auras” here: http://www.aurasma.com/auras and pointing your phone at it.

It comes with instructions “how to” and some vids here:

I think I want it!!!  Technology blows my mind. Personally, I credit Roswell and I think it's alien technology....

This is the one I tried putting up but couldn't get the video to work. Pretty amazing stuff.

The tip came from one, that's for sure.

I tried it on the weeke on iphone 4S, but i do not really got its purpose. That "point on picture inside magazine" and it will start video does not work (at least, where i live or what), as i pointed on the car advert and nothing happened. On other hand, creating those auras myself, so i pictured some random thing in my house and what next? there are possibilities to add some pre-made animations, but these are as random as the picture i shot, so again, what is the point in all of this?

One thing for sure, it was killing the iPhones battery pretty fast, i was using less than half an hour and the battery went more than 10 percent down and the phone was pretty hot on its backside. Not neccesarily the apps fault, but i do not think playing GTA3 was as "difficult" on hardware and power.

timmaigh - are you sure you followed the instructions? It was at CES 2012 and demonstrated there... so it clearly does work...

it asks me, when i turn it on, if i have little "A" logo somewhere on the screen and says if not, that is ok for now. I suppose it has something to do with the ability to point the phone´s camera at some random screen and show you the adjacent video, animation, etc. ...

I could only create my own auras, and as i said, i had no idea, why would i want to do that.

There is still a possibility, i was doing something wrong, mind.
