Ramblings of an old Doc

You’ve heard me (and Wizard1956) recommend Revo Uninstaller many times in referencing tools to do a far more complete job of removing software to

enable problem free re-installation of Stardock products.

Well, Martin Brinkmann (journalist and owner of Ghacks.net) has secured a number of licenses (19) to distribute to readers who comment on Revo Uninstaller Pro. The comments

are posted with his review of the software, which is favorable with some exceptions (such as the creation of a “change log” for un-installed software). As we reference it often,

I really recommend you read it since it does talk about pluses and minuses and cautions.

So why the “Pro” version (1-3 summarized from Ghacks)?

1. “Workgroups” can ve created to protect programs from removal.

2. Registry backup and restore point creation when un-installing programs.

3. Integrated cleanup modules and “Forced Un-install” not available in the free version.

“Additional pro-only features include the ability to export or print the list of installed programs, a customizable user interface, visual themes support, command line program support and full 64-bit compatibility.” – M. Brinkmann, Ghacks

I (long ago) became an enthusiast of Ghacks because of the quality of the reviews and editorials on his site. I wholeheartedly recommend that any tech fanatics do the same.

If you like to try out software, as I do, you know that most of it will be uninstalled at some point for various reasons.

And how many among us have had a bad install and needed to get  complete removal of the program to get it to reinstall?

In both cases, Add/Remove Programs falls well short of getting the job done. CCleaner will clean up some of the trash left behind but not all of it. The rest has to be hunted down manually and I am hesitant to fiddle with my registry. Revo is the right tool for the job and I recommend it for it's thoroughness, speed, and when used properly, safety.

((geesh, I sound like an ad, lol)

If you have need of the pro version features, jump on this offer, if not, give the free version a look,it comes in a portable version as well.

Thanks Doc. I signed me up. Now all I gotta do is wait and wait and wait some more. Who knows ... maybe I'll get picked for one. BTW ... found Everest Home Edition. Its a system monitoring app. Thought I'd give it a go. This is the last of the free version. After this there is no more free Everest.
