Ramblings of an old Doc

Opera has released its final RTM of version 11.60.

Opera 11.60’s:

Security and Privacy features can be viewed here:  http://www.opera.com/browser/features/#security

Speed: http://www.opera.com/browser/features/#speed

Smart features: http://www.opera.com/browser/features/#popular

The final cut is fast and has better security features than earlier versions I looked at, and is customizable. It has nowhere near the number of available extensions that Firefox boasts, but then, no one does. Just remember, extensions while free (mostly) do cost speed.

I also have none of the font rendering problems I noted on previous versions, possibly because of the fast java engine or perhaps because there’s no hardware acceleration on this version.

At any rate, it’s a quick little devil.

System Requirements can be viewed here: http://www.opera.com/browser/download/requirements/

Some other positives:

  • Speed Dial: Your favorite sites are just one click away at all times.
  • Search Shortcuts: Faster search - type your queries directly into the address bar.
  • Trash Can: Instantly reopen recently closed tabs.
  • Mouse Gestures: With Opera you can navigate the Web with your mouse.
  • Opera Link: Synchronize data of your choice online, or among different computers and devices.
  • Quick Find: Opera remembers not only the titles and addresses, but also the actual content of the Web pages you visit.
  • Feed Preview: Preview a Feed by clicking on the feed icon, and you will see it in clean and efficient multiple-column layout.
  • Quick and customizable Web search: Get quick access to Google, eBay, Amazon and more with the search field in the upper right corner.

Opera was my favorite but haven't been using it much due to the text problem. I just updated and even though the text problem is better it's not gone. On pages that have more text on them it's still a problem with blur. To see an example open opera and on top Help menu click on about which holds a lot of text. Short web pages are fine now so if they were able to improve that I don't understand why they can't fix it totally.

Dave... why not join Opera Forums and raise the question?

Just wondering though... how old is your 'puter, and was W7 the only OS ever on it? Also, if you updated graphics drivers, did you unistall the prior driver or install on top of it? If it's the latter, I'd suggest dl'ing the latest driver, uninstall the older ones and install the newone and reboot... if the driver doesn't do that automatically for you.

Thanx for the info. Do you know any available Opera add-ons for screenshot capture?  I got Lightshot both on Pale Moon and Comodo dragon, but in Opera it requires a third party plugin installation ( out of browser ) ?!??!

I like Opera and I would like to use this browser. Any news, suggestion, or helpful info??

Sorry, but no... best I can suggest is fn+prt sc (or ctrl+prt sc, depending on your setup). Then paste in an image editor, and 'edit' it. I use Ashampoo Snap5, but Jing can be used (free) and it hides at the top of your screen.

Oh, that is not a problem..I'm using ScreenshotCaptor and it works very fine; I was just looking for a browser implemented tool.

Thanx for your reply

This is going to sound strange, but someone sang the changelog:
