Reinstalling Windows can be a real pain even if you have backups (but not if you have Acronis and a cloned image).
Most people don't consider backing up their wireless network settings before they reinstall. I’d bet you’re among them. If you only have one or two networks you connect to, you probably don’t need this utility, but I like it and therefore saved it.
That's where the (free) Wi-Fi Network Backup and Restore Manager comes in.
This app saves all of your saved Wi-Fi network names, passwords, and keys into an XML file that you can back up with the rest of your data. This is really great for people who use their laptop for work, and visit various places during the work day, as well as other places maybe before and after work… unless you enjoy writing all those network SSID’s, passwords down and re-entering them after the installation… Also works well for the "family fixer".
When you're finished reinstalling Windows, reinstall Wi-Fi Network Backup Manager, open your Windows Network Connections and import the XML file to restore all of the old networks and their passwords.
The app works just as well if you'd like/need to share your Wi-Fi configuration with another PC but don't want to write down SSIDs and keys.
Here are a few thousand words:
and voila!
Hope this makes life easier!
