Ramblings of an old Doc
Photoshop? What's that?

It was bound to happen. Progress.

Soon, you won't really be able to tell the difference between what is a real picture and what isn't.... not just for pictures, but for animations as well.

Take a look at this video:  http://vimeo.com/28962540

Sorry but it's a vimeo vid and won't embed with the code they give.

Anyway, you can see more about Kevin Karsch on his homepage.  http://kevinkarsch.com/publications/sa11.html

Software is nice but the art of staging a shoot for a picture is where the real talent and skill is.

Just my personal opinion but it seems we will have a whole generation that can only do things with software.  I hope this doesn't happen.

Holy crap, how come no-one has said 'WOW!' yet. WOW!

The skills that once took time and effort to learn so they could be passed on to the next generation are now being cast aside soley because of the use of technology.  There are up and down sides when using technology, this happens to be one of the down sides.

That's why I didn't say wow.

Just my two cents worth.

Oh what a a load of grumpy old men you lot are.

This is excellent work by a bright young man and I can see many new applications for this without replacing existing skills and talents. I'll be reading his papers avidly.

I for one am old.   Might be grumpy also, how do you tell?

Being old allows one to have seen the talent and skills for lots of things to be either lost or forgotten.

This has happened not only with high technology but also with low technology.  There are lots of examples out there.

Indeed:

Swords and horseshoes come to mind.

Things evolve and differentiate. It is the way of Nature as well as technology. To mourn that is futile.

Odd how the people here are such technophobes.

wouldn't that be staging a pose to Paint the picture . i mean those damn cameras, one could say that would not be real talent too. compare to a painter.

all those non-talent artist that sculpt metal with the aid of 1) blow torch  2) the hammer thing they use.. the real talent is the ones that build a fire and pound it with a rock.

NOT! it is all real talent be it software or not...

so WOW Cool to the New technology (Software).

Fire? Luxury! All we had was warm dinosaur droppings!

Rocks? Luxury! All we had was sun baked clay that we made from straw, water and dirt!

Actually, there's no such thing as a greater, lesser, or superfluous art form... all are equally valid means of expressing creativity... just like the creativity it took to create the software.

Oh, I'm sure someone thinks that farting in tune to some music is an artform.  No, they're not all equal...
