Letter from Steve Jobs

August 24, 2011–To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Addendum:

On a personal note, this news could mean that Steve Jobs' health will be taking a turn for the worse.

Mr. Jobs - I know you'll probably never see this small notice and note, but I wish to join the many who thank you for your contributions to the world of computing.

More though, as a fellow human I wish you well, and if a miracle is out there, I hope you find it or vice versa.

If not, I wish you peace and the care which should allow you to enjoy what's left. I wish that for us all.

As you pointed out so well Mark, "What goes around, comes around.": It's a path we all walk, so helping others and being generous eases the burden for us all.

I just see no sense in wishing ill upon others when there is already more than enough misery in this world. Yeah, I say this and that about bankers, and let's not forget politicians and advertisers, the bastards, but that's just my frustration with the ways of the world showing.  In reality it's all huff and puff that couldn't blow down a house of straw, sticks, etc... because essentially I'm just a big ol' pussy cat and way too soft.  Oh, and no worries about the claws, mrs s prunes those back regularly.

I hope he weathers the illness well.  But he really deserves a rest.  The man is one of the greatest innovators in the technology age.

on Aug 26, 2011

He's still in apple and his still a prominent figure. The reason for his departure is to rest and he didn't want the company to have a CEO whose time away didn't have a return date. He'll act as an ad-visor but im pretty sure we can rely on his team to continue the trend he has set. Morale might drop for just a little while but they all know hes available and still on a shareholder pay-roll.

Maybe now I can get flash for my iPad, a backspace key for the keyboard and not to have to plug my iPad into another computer to update it..  I just want stupid, unreasonable things like that.

Just saw a pic of him allegedly taken yesterday and if it's legit, he's very near death.  Sad, for sure, but I'm surprised he's survived as long as he has, given the nature of the health problems he's had.  May his end be free of pain.

Linux?  But Linux is non-profit, as they sell their OS for nothing, so that's not it.

The Enterprise Linux does cost something (or at least the support does). The reason Linux will not be a big thing the forseeable future is it is highly inconsitent between distros and it has GUI issues.

PS:

Trivia - the 5th largest contributer to the 3rd version of the kernel is Microsoft.

Yahoo 7 ran a story about this... link... and most commenters are condemning TMZ for running with them.  Personally, I have to agree with them.  To have the basic knowledge that a major player in the tech world is ill is one thing.... the rest should be private and the press/papparazi need to leave him alone.

Appears the pic was not legit, as I sorta suspected.  The black 'skirt' just didn't seem right, among other things.  Glad that's not reflective of reality, which I suspect is bad enough as it is.

Appears the pic was not legit,

Like they said, TMZ is NOT a reliable source of information... on anything.  It is gutter press television and has NO place in my home.

For mine, I'd rather tune into Sesame Street.... I'd be sure then that the info has legitimacy.

As for Steve Jobs, he is ill and somewhat frail as a result of that, and these gutter snipes should respect his privacy and leave he and his family alone.

What I reckon should happen... these paparazzi mongrels should get some of their own back and be persistently hounded by people with camera in hand... to have all their private and most intimate moments paraded for all to see.

The media, ugh. All a bunch of parasites that'll do almost anything for a story (Look at the Murdoch screw-up for proof on that) and I tend to take almost everything paraded around by them with a few pounds of salt.

That says it all... and I'm not confusing these maggots with real journalists.  Dunno about in your neck of the woods, but we have a few actual journalists here in Oz, ones who have dignity, self respect and treat their subjects fairly.  I've had the chance to meet a couple of them over the years and neither of them seeks sensationalism or stoops to gutter tactics to get a story.

Nope, they are the exception, true gentlemen.... sadly, there aren't more of them.
