Ramblings of an old Doc

Yep, I’ve found a good app to add to my “Mr. Fixit” toolbox (thanks to TheWindowsClub and Anand@TWC).

A  zipped file is highly structured one and therefore prone to corruption from defragging, etc. Your usual zip utility won’t work with the file as it’s damaged structure prevents the utility from working.

“This is because all zip tools check archives for integrity. If CRC values of the original files of an archive don't match the extracted ones, the standard tools won't extract them. In such a case DiskInternals ZIP Repair helps repair zip structure and extract the contents of the archive. Full automation of the recovery and a wizard-like interface make zip repair no more than a snap.”

- DiskInternals

The real plus of the utility is the Wizard interface which really makes things easy. There are other tools to do the same thing, but they lack the interface ease do I’m recommending the easiest one to work with. Hopefully, this will help you prevent data loss.

Another great tool to have. Thanks Doc!

It doesn't state whether it will repair rar files but I've run into enough " broken" zips that I'm sure I'll need this sooner or later.

willykirshner... the last Windows version that homepage says is compatible is Vista. Makes no mention of Windows 7...

So I searched and found software with the same name here:  [link removed]

It is trialware and (after the trial period) costs $27.

From the download page for the link you placed in reply #3, It looks like that software is trialware as well. Only the three software items at the bottom of the page show as "free".

No, no, not The Windows Club! Every time I go there I end up with at least five new programs...  Before I started using WindowBlinds again I was using a cute little program that sets the backgrounds of individual folders. It still works fine, it's just WB lets me be lazier. (although limited to one background for them all) Neat story about the members of the club.
