Sorry id this is a considered a dumb question:  palemoon, is a web browser?   Is 'safer' than IE, firefox. etc.?  Is it still available, and, may I ask, where is a 'safe' site to get it from.  I'm beginning to not trust search engine results anymore.....

Pale Moon Browser is the Firefox that was built especially for Windows (less bloat since Mac/Linuc, etc. stuff not included) and supposedly engineered especially for Windows machines.

I like it a lot, and am using 3.6.17 .

Hi doc uval,  everytime i hit the url you both sent for http: ... palemoon.org/   i get sent to this ...

if I type the url (cut paste) it still sends me to this freeze page.  It this another redirect malware?   Or is MS (im using IE right now because Firefox kept crashing on me)  why won't it let me go to the palemoon site, even when url is typed in the window line at the very top?

I went to the other palemoon site,,,  and got in.  It says it won't work with AMD Althlo .. which is what i have.. so i can't use the palemoon version of firefox anyway....  Thanks so much .. it was a good idea to try.

Hi Doc, the plae moon has a version for the althlon chip.. found it on the site in one of the pull down menus.   using it now... is faster than IE.. and the old firefox and opera.  Still don't understand the "freeze" thingy... but I'm happy to get pale moon.

Had never tried Pale Moon before. Just took a look at it and can't see any difference except it's called Pale Moon. Can anyone point to any difference they can see? I am very interested in this new browser.

As for Firefox 5. I have always been use to the idea of a new version to be different from the previous version. This is not a new version, this is just an update with a new number. I find this insulting and shameful. Trying to trick people into thinking they are getting a new product when all it is is an updated version of the one they currently have or what was out before. At least when it went from 3 to 4 the UI looked different.

I find it faster than Firefox. You have to be careful with programs because they don't support Palemoon.

Oh and 3.6 has been updated

I am on 4.0.3 and not had any real issues.  Guess I will have to watch it for a while longer.

Hey!  Before Doc started crowing about Palemoon, I though it was just a lager too!  But I downloaded it (back around 3.6.13) and have used it as my primary through the 4 version so far.  And I do love it best.

Firefox 5 working fine here apart from some addons that are not compatible yet like key scrambler.

Palemoon is described as a version of Firefox 'optimized' for Windows OS's, meaning some stuff has been stripped out, I would assume, and other stuff 'tuned' for Windows.

Even though PM4 is recommended for Win7 & PM3 for XP, I've been running PM4 on 2 XP rigs for quite awhile now (currently 4.0.7) without any issues and I prefer the PM4 UI.  I had used FF for a long time, but FF4 and FF3 (starting with FF3.6) were both causing me headaches with crashes on opening multiple tabs on one of the machines which is what led me to try PM.  Why PM has no trouble here & FF does is a mystery, but clearly some of the stuff 'stripped out' of FF to make PM may have been contributing.

PM works with almost all the FF add-ons.  A number of sites I need to use regularly (mainly Outlook Webmail & some banking sites) don't render properly (or work at all) on FF or PM, but using the IE Tab Plus add-on fixes that very nicely.

I've tried Opera, Chrome, Safari, IE8 and FF3/4, and PM4 is where I settled.  Works great & is very stable, even with 10 or more tabs open.

I hate Firefox, the browser is getting worse version by version...like Internet Explorer!

I use Chrome and i love it. Chrome is getting better version by version!

But this is my opinion...

I might have moved to Chrome by now except I don't like how it puts all the add-on icons at the top. I just don't know how to get them off of there and only keep the ones I want. I like firefox because of the all-in-one sidebar add-on I have where I have easy access to the add-ons and more when ever I need to. If Chrome had something like this and I could remove the icons at the top at my leisure I would probably move to Chrome although it might be difficult as I am so use to Firefox, I can't even stand having IE open for too long when it's necessary to open.

Thanks for the Pale Moon links. I've been using it for a day now, and with a few add-ons I got it set up just how I like it. The only minor annoyances are that one (or several) add-ons seem to have disabled the 'notify when closing more tabs' check, and that the status bar changes color with the controls and tabs bar, making the UI look quite ugly in most cases.

Also, I know this is a firefox thing but still, how pretentious is it to call skins 'personas' that you can 'wear'. Juck.
