Ramblings of an old Doc

This one caught my eye because not only is it free, it updates it’s info from net and pc savvy users who seem to be very active in their Forums giving advice regarding not only the software, but the latest info about services and toolbars. This ranges from older to the ‘hot off the presses’. It’s less than a month old, and has 62,837 active members. You can see software ratings from the homepage.

In addition to the optimizer, it has a file shredder, Cleaner, Uninstaller, and a Hijack log which is useful in site reporting, and more.

This comes from the software maker via cnet downloads:

“SlimCleaner is a cloud-enhanced Windows cleaner that uses crowd-sourcing to optimize PC performance. SlimCleaner combines all the essential tools for cleaning a PC with its stream of real-time community feedback and recommendations from the cloud. By accessing this contributive cloud, SlimCleaner obtains the latest information about software, services and toolbars, no matter how recent. Using the SlimCleaner cloud, users can rate applications on their PCs and provide comments about the features, functions and usefulness of various pieces of software, browsers, toolbars and other items. SlimCleaner uses this community feedback to improve its own optimization features and let users see the community ratings for various items and settings on their PC. The easy-to-use interface features tabs that let consumers clean their PC, analyze settings and disable or uninstall programs that are no longer useful, based on the choice of the consumer. With one click, users can run any SlimCleaner optimizing function, such as the cleaner, start-up and services optimizer, cloud-based uninstall manager, and others. In addition, by allowing users to scan suspicious files with its built-in cloud AV functionality, SlimCleaner helps facilitate detection of malicious code using information from several anti-virus engines or the public VirusTotal API.”

I recommend taking a look at their website: http://www.slimwareutilities.com/

I'm fine with CCleaner and Revo Uninstaller. For me Security Essentials, SUPER AntiSpyware and Malwarebytes are good and all that stuff is free too.

The advantage here is the shredder, and the Forums.

I run SlimDrivers and it works well so I may give SlimCleaner a look at.

I too run CCleaner and like it a lot.  Each program has it pros an cons, CCleaner also looks at the Registry, I don't see any mention of SlimCleaner doing that.

Nothing really new here, the database needs to be filled out a lot to make it useful. And already we see signs of bias, such as impulse being optional and steam being "good" (ie - you want this).

on May 30, 2011

I think that's sample sized bias... maybe hasn't reached enough Impulse folks to 'score', or, you don't really have to load Impulse on boot.

Also... I just found this rather interesting...

I prefer Window Washer by webroot for purging all that web surfing and MRU data.

For CCleaner users: it's available since around 10 months CCleaner Enhancer (latest version 2.3)  http://download.cnet.com/CCEnhancer/3000-18512_4-75212385.html , a free utility that in just one click makes a complete scanning of the system and adds to CCleaner all the compatible applications installed (CCleaner Enhancer database has got, at the moment, more than 270 progs that are not included in the CCleaner "default" edition) .

Just give it a try, you will see a big change!!

Please, NOTE : after running CCleaner Enhancer, check carefully all the new added applications. If there is something you don't want to be scanned, just unselect the specific box.

Program keeps crashing here on w7 32bit,installed the slimdrivers from same company and it works a treat, finding outdated drivers and updating them.Pity about slimclaener as it looks promising but sticking with ccleaner for now.

Are you sure you had a good install, davyandjane?

Also, try rebooting (saw that with someone who had a similar problem in their Forum).

If that fails, I'd uninstall reboot and the retry installation and reboot.

Downloaded and ran it, will leave on the computer and see if there are major differences between it and CCleaner.  I guess it won't hurt to have both installed, will it?

on May 31, 2011

same problem here as DavyandJane. installs and runs fine the first time. i rebooted and then as soon as i went to look at the program settings it crashed and after that the program would never load again. Uninstalled, cleaned registry. reinstalled and same problem...uninstalled and never try again, far to problematic. Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit

Wonder why that's happening. Hasn't to me...
