Ramblings of an old Doc

Well, we’ve had a week or two to try out ie9, ff4 and Chrome10. Cnet.com (Seth Rosenblatt) has run some benchmarks on the three (Opera and Safari not included because they haven’t been updated recently) and the results have been published.

Using Google’s benchmark, Chrome 10 came out a big winner, but they tailored their browser to that benchmark. Boot time didn’t fare as well. Using JSGamesbench, ff4 won and Kraken showed for ie9.

FF4 should do much better when full hardware acceleration is enabled by Mozilla.

Firefox 4 was chosen the overall winner, but I expect good things of Opera. After all, tab stacking is unique to it, and it frequently surprises with other features like Unite.

Not sure what Safari will bring to bear, though.

Not choosing “best” or worst, here. Everyone should find something to appreciate in each browser. Competition is just making better browsers for us all.

Just out of curiosity I clicked on tools, add-ons and found imageshack as a right click for FF. If my links appear to be private shouldn't I change that and if so how..

For some obscure reason, FF3.6.xx and FF4 want to hang on my notebook (run-of-the-mill Dell Vostro 1500 with XPP) after opening multiple tabs, usually on tab 5-8 or so.  Just locks up 'Not Responding'.  Using AdBlock+ & IE Tab 2 in FF3 & AdBlock+ in FF4 as only add-ons, but would do the same thing clean of add-ons.  Even after a couple of full uninstall/re-install cycles.  IE8 has no problem opening as many tabs of the same websites, and more.  I really prefer FF, but it just keeps locking up at the most inopportune times.  Have no trouble with FF3.6.xx on two other computers so not sure what the heck is going on.  Couple of sites I have to use regularly require IE so to use FF I need to use IE Tab 2 (or 2 browsers, which offends my sensibilities).

Do FF3.6.xx compatible add-ons work in Pale Moon?  Never mind.  I should learn to read before I type.  LOL

By right clicking on the image it didn't show as upload to imageshack. Clicked on image info then c/p that to here. Fist in the reply box then in the dialogue box. That worked ... obviously. Strange though. If I right click outside the box it shows up. Another thing. On the mouse pad. Normally if I tap it it should be the same as left click. Instead it does the right click. Weird. Weirder still is that the 'upload to imageshack only shows up when the browser is open. Not if I have it minimized. I tried it on an image in my download folder.

Using PaleMoon 4.0 as I type with 9 tabs open & having no issues.  IE Tab, AdBlock & Back to Top all working fine with it.  I think I like this browser.  Does seem quick compared to FF, especially on initial launch.
