Ramblings of an old Doc

Well, we’ve had a week or two to try out ie9, ff4 and Chrome10. Cnet.com (Seth Rosenblatt) has run some benchmarks on the three (Opera and Safari not included because they haven’t been updated recently) and the results have been published.

Using Google’s benchmark, Chrome 10 came out a big winner, but they tailored their browser to that benchmark. Boot time didn’t fare as well. Using JSGamesbench, ff4 won and Kraken showed for ie9.

FF4 should do much better when full hardware acceleration is enabled by Mozilla.

Firefox 4 was chosen the overall winner, but I expect good things of Opera. After all, tab stacking is unique to it, and it frequently surprises with other features like Unite.

Not sure what Safari will bring to bear, though.

Not choosing “best” or worst, here. Everyone should find something to appreciate in each browser. Competition is just making better browsers for us all.

Correction. Its Pale Moon 3

on Apr 04, 2011

Just re-formatted my drive. Installed Win7 Pro and thought I'd give FF4 another shot. THE DAMN THING DOES NOT FREAKIN' WORK!!!

Try to go to another web site like imageshack, connection times out. Four times I tried. It happened with Google and photobucket. I finally got to photobucket because I needed to show Philly 0381 the QED rainy I downloaded. It works fine but I can't show it because FF4 will not copy the direct link nor paste it. I'm hoping I can get to cnet and roll back to 3.6.15. At least I know that one works. Sheesh!!

Tried for FF3.6.15 ... I didn't get it. Got Palemoon 4. It won't copy/paste either. What the hell am I doing wrong?!?

I installed speed dial in palemoon. Instead of putting the sites I want in there, it puts up the forum pages. WTF.

what security software?

Lantec
what security software?

All I have right now is MSE. I didn't have time to install MalwareBytes or ThreatFire. Those are the only ones  I'm using now. And Doc ... it was Pale Moon 3 I installed from the home site. It gave me a choice. 3 or 4. I chose 3. I now have FF 3.6.15 and that won't copy/paste either. I went to the help page online and it says shutting down remote desktop will fix it. I can't seem to find out how to do that. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

IN the Start Menu, right click "Computer", choose properties, from the items on the left choose "Remote Settings", uncheck "Allow......."

Thanks yrag for showing up. You know more about this stuff than just about everyone. Can I impose upon your genius ... please. I now have Win7 Pro installed. Went smoothly, no problems. I took your advice and have only the three security apps, no more than that. MSE, MalwareBytes and ThreatFire. Same as DrJBHL uses. I opted for a clean install so I'm starting from scratch.

Does "Ctrl+c" "Ctrl+v" work?

on Apr 04, 2011

I'll try it.

I right clicked on the image itself rather than where it says direct link. It pasted the link here and in the dialogue box but the image isn't here.

BTW ... right click and click on copy link location.

Are you talking about this forum as it relates to copy/paste?

on Apr 04, 2011

Yes. I used to use imageshack but Fire fox no longer supports it so I went to photobucket. Worked like a charm before.
